A group of us (5-7) are thinking of going to the World Eqestrian games Aug/Sept 2014 in Normandy. One of our friends has had a bad couple of years or so and we want to give her something to look forward to.
Can anyone advise on the best way of getting there? Are any official groups organising travel and accommodation or would we be best trying to do it on our own? I think the disciplines are in various areas which makes travel to and from the sites another problem.
I have googled and read quite a bit about the games and the area and I still can't make up my mind as to the best way to do it. Any advice gratefully received.

This is the site with all the info http://www.jemfeialltech2014-normandie.fr/uk/
Tickets aren't available yet, but this site will update with all the info you will need. If you subscribe to the newsetter you will be kept updated of ticket release etc.

Depending on what you want to watch, you will most likely need a car to travel between venues so best way to go would be via ferry/Eurotunnel to keep your independence.

There will be organised tours, but may be more expensive than going independently. Keep your eye on the above website for info.

We went to the 2002 WEG in Jerez and the 2006 WEG in Aachen.
Both times we went as part of groups that advertised in H&H. The first one was well organised but the second was awful, we missed things because the bus didn't know where to park, there was people organising it but they didn't speak any German so couldn't find out info for us. They were part of the group because they knew about dressage and even though they had come over early they couldn't tell us that you needed to book to eat at the hotel restaurant.
The only reason we booked through them for Aachen was because it had been well organised for Jerez but definately wouldn't use them again.
I quite fancy going to Normandy but would be much more likely to organise it myself.
