Not sure if anyone else noticed but whilst watching the WEG Grand Prix yesterday, there were some beautiful slowmo shots of the horses hooves and I noticed that many had either heart bar or egg bar shoes on, on front or hind? I was quite surprised because I always thought such shoes were for remedial purposes mostly and certainly not for these athletes whose movement is paramount. If they need shoes like that, then surely they arent quite right?

Perhaps someone could explain to an ignoramus like me why they would be wearing them?
Anyone any thoughts on this?

It's probably not because they aren't right but because Eggbars support their legs more and they can be shod really long and wide to support their heels as well, I should imagine that when a horse gets to GP they may make little performance tweaks to it's shoeing to keep it as comfortable as possible to ensure long term soundness at the level!
