Re the article online today about weighing show horses and eliminating those that are overweight.

Sorry if this has already been discussed - I had a look and couldn't see another thread.

As I was reading it I was thinking to myself - what a good idea, I am sick of seeing horses and ponies that are said to be carrying 'excellent condition' in the show ring but are in actual fact obese. But then I got to the cost of installing the weighing faclilities - £104010 or, 1 04 10.....

Is this a joke or not???!!!!

Errr, most definitely, LOOF - (fool backwards), 1st April, Avril Fulham, and £104010 all in bold - yup - is a good one though! well done H&H!

Bloody good idea though!

Yeah, I thought it was a good idea too!!! Shame it is just a joke really, sometimes I wonder how people get away with it when you can see the fat rolling across their bellies as they trot round the ring.

I'm not saying all showing producers are the same but I have definately noticed a couple of higher profile riders on horses that I would class as overweight.

I swear I didnt think it was real until I saw this thread
After reading it twice though I realise how much of a numpty I am :D I think its a great idea tbh! :)

Oh no!!! I am so gullible. I was thinking what a fab idea and if it was coming anywhere near me that I'd like to go and weigh my horse, to see if the measuring tapes are anywhere near accurate! :D :D :D

Doh! :D

The best horse related April fool I fell for was in a local paper when a new swimming pool was opening in a town where there are a lot of travellers and gipsy horses. The article stated that one lane of the pool would be reserved for the horses so they could be exercised and have hydrotherapy as part of an ethnic diversity programme.

I thought it was brilliant and was all for phoning up to see if we could take our nags swimming - and then I saw the date.

The newspaper was "The Tuam Herald" and I think about 3 years ago so if anyone fancies digging up the archive it is well worth a read and a chuckle:)
