Sorry, I know these posts tend to annoy some, but...

Assuming the rider is 'average' what would the carrying range of an 'average' 14hh New Forest be?

I appreciate a bit of a 'length if string' question.

Thanks:D

No idea, but might help others if they maybe had a height of the rider? Because the average weight, of a 6ft women, is obviously more than the average weight of a 5ft women :)

I have a 14hh New Forest who is 18 years old and I have been told by the chiro that he could carry no more than 10.5 stone comfortably but that is because of his age.

That always was the rule of thumb...stocky is good if you (or the rider) is a bit on the heavy side...it also depends on the way you ride, some people ride 'heavier' than others.

if its a true forrester and not a stud bred 14hh it would easily carry 12stone plus.

Agree with this statement, i have a 13.3 stud bred and a 14.1 forest bred, totally different build, forest bred is stocky with a leg at each corner, wears a rug 2 sizes bigger than the 13.3 and has an inch more bone, stud bred is fine and mincy so to speak althou both have very large powerful bottoms - LOL

However both carry me 10.5st plus tack althou i have actually passed the 13.3 ride down to my daughter now to compete and i compete the bigger one.

I have a 5yr old 13.3/14 hh forest bred gelding, hes chunky and still think he has a bit more growing in him, i weigh 9 stone and he hardly knows im there, i bet he could carry a lot more than me!!!

Horrid Herbie is a forest bred. He's 12.3hh but may be smaller (he's terrified of the measuring stick and trys to kill me if i go near him. He was sold to me as a 13.2hh but theres no way he's that tall) I used to weigh 9 stone (have lost some weight) but he could buck, rear and leap in impressive style with me on top :p :D
Here is the little fella just to give you an idea of what i'm waffling on about :p;):)

Thanks for the info guys. Rider is approx 5'2" and is looking at a chunky forest bred.

Ive ridden a 13.3 NF on a XC ride and i am just underr 11 and 5ft6 and he had no problem bucking and running off with me so im sure your 5ft2 rider will be fine on your pony
