Weight gain after spay

Ok, so I know that weight gain is possible after spaying, but my Labrador was spayed last week (Wednesday), and she's already filling out her body suit quite a bit! She's huge.

Her exercise is less, so we decreased her food, but man, I did not think it'd happen this fast ? is this normal? And will she now only be able to eat air? ? Really hoping it comes off when she can swim and fetch again.
 
I have had retrievers spayed for years, admittedly flatcoats not labradors but not one put on extra weight their whole lives. If it’s true she is fatter within one week, then you must address how you are feeding her.
I hope some labrador owners will be along to help.
 
I had my 3 Yr old Lab spayed about 6 weeks ago. She had the full operation, as opposed to keyhole, as she had hormone related problems. She hasn't increased in weight at all and we haven't changed her diet.
 
My dog lost it again pretty quickly once exercise resumed. I’ve just had one done by keyhole so she was active more quickly. She had long hair, so looks very slim with it all shaved off.

I don’t think weight gain happens that quickly, so it’s probably the lack of exercise.
 
I’d worry, she’s not retaining fluid or anything is she? (Not knowing if that is even possible!).
I still struggle not to see the ribs on my long and lean one. As they age they get a bit heavier round the shoulders but possibly that happens with entires as well.
None of mine put on any at all over their lifetime, but I am brutal with their food allowance when they aren’t busy.

Do they leave the ovaries in with keyhole? I didn’t know that.

That's what I'm worried about; fluid.

It doesn't seem like it though, but I might ask for vet.

She had her ovaries removed and has quite a long, stapled, incision. The vet had to go a bit deeper than anticipated and she had a lot of little vessels bleeding. Today she looks a little less...large.

We did decrease her food, and she has been able to go on 30 min walks again. She's just wider in some areas. She's normally quite "sporty"

Yeah, and she seems fine so..

It's also possible that she is much like her owner, in that when any diet or exercise is changed one bit, the pounds pack right on ? very much of the good doer variety.

We'll keep the decreased diet and hopefully when swim and fetch are allows again, she'll lose it.


Also, how does one have so many Labradors? I cannot even handle how the one sheds!
 
OH had a collie bitch who had to be spayed as an emergency due to pyometra. She gained a lot of weight and despite feeding her very little (and feeling very mean) she was like a little barrel. She suffered with arthritis too though by the time of the spay so couldn't be worked hard afterwards either.

My GSD bitch is in for spaying today and I will be keeping an eye on her weight and will reduce food accordingly. I am hoping she doesn't gain weight and that spaying her doesn't change her coat either.
 
I think it might have been some type of bloating? Today she looks even more toward her normal and less wide. Hmm.

We also have no carpets. I often hoover during the day and the robot goes out at night. Occasionally there is the odd hair on my dinner plate. It's obscene the amount of shedding one Lab can do.
