Hi, my 20 year old pony has been diagnosed with equine metabolic syndrome,
he has not been over weight for 14 years, he has always had a big neck people used to think he was a stallion, but it wasnt cresty, he has lost condition since being diagnosed, his insulin levels have dropped from over 900 to at his last blood test 221 still high but coming down, he is a little ribby and has lost some of his neck his head looks a little big now I think, I feed him approx 9KG of hay a day I was soaking it but he was reluctant to eat it, only a small feed of Equibeet and Alan & Page no sugar no cereal mix twice a day with magnesium and metformin, which I will be stopping soon I have read it is only effective for a few months then use again if we have a relapse. He is also on 1mg prascend fro cushings, he weighs approx 500KG would be grateful of any advice has I know I must becareful what I add
