My girl's come out of the winter slim - but in this hot-cold weather has lost more weight and really can't afford to lose any more. She needs to put on a bit, which would be great if she could eat grass - but she can't, gets footy on even a tiny bit. Just to make matters worse, alfalfa causes problems as well so that's out!

So far she's on:
Ad-lib timothy haylage
a scoop and a bit of speedibeet
500g baileys outshine
Equilibra feed balancer

I soak the speedibeet and give it to her with her night haylage. She munches on it now and then and it's all gone by the morning. The rest she gets in two feeds. She has a grass-free paddock in which I put plenty of haylage (there's always some left when I come to get her in). She shares this with her companion pony so isn't on her own. She's fully clipped and has a medium-weight rug during the day, and another medium-weight with neck on top of that at night. She was wormed last week (the equest one with the tapeworm wormer in it). My pony, on just ad-lib haylage, and in the same paddock during the day, is in good condition.... ???

Any ideas greatfully received!

Look for feeds low in starch and sugar and high in oil for more energy. Topspec cool condition cubes are about 12.5 mj/kg and very low starch, i think 6%. Coolstance copra meal is very low starch too and around 15 mj/kg.
Unmollassed sugar beet is good but a high volume of it is water so although it is about 12.5 mj/kg the amount of actual feed per scoop is relatively small.

another vote for top spec cool condition cubes, also Rice Bran (I think marketed in a pelleted form called Equi Jewel by Saracan). Those helped my old mare who had cushings.
