After a tapeworm infestation and several illnesses due to his immune system being non existant the vet has suggested soya oil and 'molasitated' barley possibly? Barley name may be wrong as bad reception but was wondering if anyone could suggest where you can purchase these from or any other suggestions?

Thanks, robyn :)

micronised barley I think!!! Also sometimes referred to as flaked. Does your horse eat well/fussy? Does it have any issues with any types of feed? Any diet related problems such as laminitis in the past?

I have had great results with Veteran vitality by allen and page mixed with bruised barley and conditioning cubs, I have now stopped the barley and use the VV and Cubes this is mixed with Alfalfa to stop her bolting it :)

Also you can add sugar beet as well I started adding this to the feed and she love it :) She has put on 50kgs in only 3/4 weeks and her coat is shiny.

She was ill as well :)

You don't have to use soya oil, any vegetable oil will do the job and is much cheaper, we were told by vet to feed our 17.3 emaciated newbie a pint and a half a day, between 4 feeds (but introduce it gradually before getting up to a large amount and check to see how much oil for you size horse). We also fed calf milk replacer powder in the feeds, again, added gradually. Perhaps have a look at the winergy equilibrium feeds, I tend to bang on about these because I was so impressed with them when we used it. They are fibre and oil based feeds which you could just feed with sugar beet if you wanted to add anything extra and work really well. Our problem was that we were feeding 2 large horses that had just come from the sales in emaciated condition, a bag would only last one of them 3 days at the rate advised and we just could not afford to keep them on it long term.
