still need help with gaining weight on my 17 year mare! shes fed twice a day each with 1 scoop veteran vitality. 1 scoop weight gain mix and 1 scoop chaff. shes kept in at night with unlimited hay (she normaly eats about3 big haynets worth) and out in the day with plenty of grass and hay but nothing seems to work shes been checked out by vet and everything fine and is regualy wormed
anyone have any suggestions, she been like it since begining of summer and hasnt changed a bit! :/

My most effective weight gain feeds are - sugarbeet (although iv had to change to speedibeet as it sent his head crazy!), barley rings, baileys outshine (the best ever, but fairly pricey!), alfa oil. Lots of little feeds and lots of good quality, rich haylage. Good luck x - also pink powder helped my boys tummy and helped him digest the feeds properly x

thanks ill look into some of them does speedibeet do just as good as sugarbeet as mine is a warmblood mare and does go hyper very easy but i spose her condition is more important x

well she is having plenty/loads of grub. so look at teeth? worming? have you run any blods as a ball park figure? liver/kidney function? 17 is not old these days. have you tried adding oil into her feeds? something is not adding up if she is still poor! blue chip linseed all good additives.is she stressed? scoped for ulcers? so hard if you dont see in the flesh? have you done a tape worm treatment?

vet has checked on her had her sedated and filed her teeth down and she said everything is fine. forgot to say shes on a cup of bluechip daily to. i think i will add some oil or linseed and sugarbeet and maybe start giving her some good quality haylege to as they supply that at my yard
