Depends so much on build

Does he look underweight? Can you see his ribs? Are his hips covered?

Also think about how fit the horse is, my ex racer looked lean when I got her but that was because she was fit, not thin

My 16hh TB had been weighed on a weighbridge and when endurance fit was 525kgs and after 2 months box rest was 544kgs. He is a fairly light build so I would say that yes that does seem a bit light. For comparison, my 14.3hh Arab is a tad over 400kgs when fit.

Sounds very underweight to me. My 16.1hh big boned TB is 568 kg. I would expect an average 16hh tb to be over 500 kg unless they were exceptionally slightly built.

Most uk flat racing thoroughbreds seem to weigh 420-480ish during training as a 2-3yo. It is entirely impossible for anyone to tell you your horse is underweight without seeing him.
