Anyone able to help with this? I need a weight for my new pony for worming purposes.

My existing shetland is only 34 inches and a fine built little girl, on the weigh tape she is about 160kg.

My new pony however is island bred built-like-a-brick-outhouse type, she is 3 years old and 40 inches. she isnt fat, just right but just bulk with a huge girth which i suspect is about the same as my 14.3hh sec D! I havent had the weight tape on her yet as i dont want to freak her out and i wont be able to get her to a weigh bridge anytime soon either as i dont want to stress her out (she is pretty unhandled) and first time in a trailer was coming home.

So... anyone got this type of pony and able to tell me what theirs weighs? thanks

This method is supposed to be more accurate than a tape. http://www.thehorse.com/articles/31852/adult-horse-weight-calculator

Going by an average weight of the type of horse/pony is not at all reliable or appropriate, some are fat, thin and of various builds.

thank you,I cant see the article though, do you have to be a member?

i know its not usually ideal or accurate to go by average weight/build but thats why I asked about my specific pony as she is specific build and type. stab in the dark but I was hoping someone might have the same to aid me in making my ‘best bet’, which is unfortunately the best can do for now :/

is there any way you might be able to paste the info from the article at all? many thanks :)

Sorry, yes you have to register. Here's another link that should work. http://www.smartpakequine.com/content/horse-weight-calculator

I've only got minis. :)

well interestingly the weigh tape came out at 320kg and the above method worked out at 300kg (rounded off) so the tape wasnt hugely far out. Will definitely be keeping a note of that link though :D
