With all the grass that is around I'm having trouble keeping my pony's weight under control. I ride 4/5 times a week but he could do with losing some weight, does anyone have any suggestions please?

I've got a muzzle but he is now an expert at removing it!!! I tried it all last summer and spent more time in the field trying to find it than he spent wearing it. He is in a small paddock at the moment with his friend but this is not a permanent arrangement. I'm also bring him in at night still.

Do you feed him hay at night? How much? Is it meadow or seed hay? I assume you're not giving him any hard feed (unless it's chaff with supplements?)
If he's eating lots of hay, cut that down and put it in a small holed net/ double net, so as it lasts longer.
Is there any way you can use someone elses horse as a mower in your paddock once his friend has gone?

Thought this was going to be a comment about rider weight - do you think a muzzle would work for me too?

Shouldn't think so, I tried it last year and found it was far too easy to get a straw through and there is a multitude of things you can eat through a straw - gin and tonic for one!!

Unfortunately electric fencing is not an option neither is strip grazing. Looks like I'll have to keep him in.

Nikkiportia He doesn't eat much hay overnight and I don't feed him anything in the summer

I just don't get why places won't allow strip grazing or taping off a small area for fatties! Makes my blood boil.

I have 6 acres, no fencing; Its all sectioned up into different sizes with electic tape depending on weather, how fat the horses are etc!!
