Weighted Training Boots

Well they make a difference because the weights encourage your horse to use its hind legs more or flick its back end over a fence! A lot of the pros use them, but personally i wouldn't at the end of the day if a horse hasn't got the ability then why strap weights to its legs?! Maybe im missing the point but i have seen a few SJ horses which have been badly scared through misuse of theses boots

I haven't used them but i think they help develop muscles and i dont think they would be heavy enough to scare a horse i guess its the idea that if the horse can jump a certain height with weights then it would jump higher without like a racehorse if they carry someone of 9 or 10stone or whatever at home and then at a race they carry someone of 6stone in a race i know jusge exagerations they are going to go faster in the race

We used them on my mare, not for jumpin purpose's though. We had the physio to her and she was weak behind on one side, she is very lazy and doesn't like to work! So she advised us to put a weighted boot on just to get her using her muscles. If your horse has got small legs you can use the human wrist weights too.

I guess a long as your sensible and let the horse get used to them i dont see how a problem would happen the horse would soon realise and reajust just as they do when you get on there back.

But what sort of muscle / tendon / ligament strain have you put on them by suddenly 'weighing' their legs?
Just seem like a bad idea to me, one of those crazy gadgets that someone thinks up every so often.
