Much as I love the two springers we have, they are too old to work with the guns any more and Teal the lab is useless, been mollycoddled as a pup, daft as a brush.
Would like one to work and my friend has a beautiful German Pointer. I manage to keep the springers fit but am I right in thinking that weimaraners/GPers need a hell of a lot of exercise per day? Thanks x

She is ace isnt she, I watched her work when we had the shoot up at Bekka's, she is so clever and full of life, I just dont know whether I have the time for that much exercise!

Ive got a weimaraner and the main thing i have learnt with her is that she needs lots of mental stimulation, she has endless amounts of stamina and no amount of exercise ever really tires her mentally...

I have always said that my dog Etta would have been fantastic for police work doing drug searches and things like that, as she is so focused when asked to do someting but makes her own fun when bored!

Im sure if you are looking for a working dog then the weimaraner would be a lovely choice, my girl was bred from a very good line of working dogs but she has always been a pet...

Good luck with your choice and im sure if you decide on a weimaraner you will be very pleased. They are a very striking and rewarding dog to spend time with!!

Wow, thanks that helps a lot. Yes I want one that will work but I did also make a fuss of my two springers, when they were working they were working and when they wernt I would pet them

Yes the lab is fizzy, they are always on the go, ALWAYS, I have found that with her, but weimaraners are just so striking and work so well

I dont want to be one of those people that gets a big dog and then find myself a little out of my depth.

rosie carr used to have a weimaraner and a GSP and she says the GSP was much easier and a better pet. Hector was a sweetie but a pain in the bum apparently! I'd go for a pointer. x

They need tonnes and I think Benji's girl has summed it up brilliantly. You are incredibly sensible asking the questions before you get a dog. There is a lady around here with a Weimaraner and it attacks everything as is neurotic as hell due to lack of stimulus I suspect!Yet there was one at our last place that was a dream in every way as the owners xercised it literally all day doing what it was bred to do and was a fantastic and beautifully tempered animal. Best of luck with your choice.

My friend is rescue coordinator for German Wire haired pointers. PM me is you want details. There are often young adults ready for training who have become too lively for a pet household.

Yes I think it would be a pity to waste such a good animal, I will only get one when I have the time to tend to it properly, so winter is perhaps not a great place to start. I do want one and I think I could manage it, but you see so many good dogs get ruined because people dont give them what they really need. I love my spaniels, but its abit like getting a pointer and a shetland, totally different needs. Will think it all through
