I’m tearing my hair out with my spaniel.

We thought he’d been bitten by a snake 10 days ago. Came tearing back to me on a walk, very clingy,
upset and constantly looking at his back end. Took him to the (slightly unhelpful) out of hours vet who didn’t think he’d been bitten by a snake. Gave him some painkillers and sent us on our merry way.
He was still eating and drinking but quiet so 3 days later I took him to our normal vet.
His anal glands were full, this has been a reoccurring problem and he has them emptied by the vet. He took his temperature and said it was slightly high so he suspected he was fighting some kind of infection, but didn’t think it was infected anal glands. He gave him an antibiotic injection and sent us off with a 5 day course.
Spaniel soon perked up and has been back to normal since finishing his antibiotics. But today we’re back to square one, clingy, anxious and looking round to his back end again. Appetite fine, drinking and toilet habits all fine but he’s clearly upset about something.
I’m going to call the vet in the morning and get him in.
I’m at a loss thinking what it could be.

I hope you get to the bottom of this, sounds quite worrying. Maybe consider adding fibre if he does have an issue emptying his glands-does he leak/ski along the floor? Our vet taught me how to empty glands, which saved us having to visit the surgery.

Hopefully it’s not spinal 😕. Vet did palpate him last time and wasn’t concerned. Maybe will have to ask for an x-ray.
His anal glands have been problematic all his life. We’ve had to tweak his diet a few times - he is fussy but he has veg and a fibre biscuit meal that I get from the vet alongside Forthglade meat. We did discuss having his glands packed under anaesthetic as they had reoccurring infections. But he’s not had a problem for 18 months now. Either the vet or the groomer empties them for me. I’ll be honest the smell makes me heave 😂
