So I'm awaiting a call from the vet to discuss Tartines blood test results which I got early this morning.

Fortunately all is good on the liver and kidney function.

All good on the pancreas front too:

A little disappointed with the muscle enzymes which are still elevated despite the blood being taken at complete rest, and the low magnesium is very puzzling as T is getting at least 25g Mg a day (50g MgO)

Trace elements are good... first time ever selenium is in the normal range (she gets supplemented 2g per day). I may try dropping to 2g one day 1g the next to see how she copes with that.

This is where it gets a bit weird:

Normocytic normochromic anaemia? despite copper being in the normal range. Also below LLN for platelets :/

White cell differential is also weird:

Absolute lymphocytes are normal, but off in the differential.
Slight neutropenia.
Overall white cells are on the low side, but nothing concerning

It's been a long time since I've done interpretation of blood analyses, and even then it was humans, not horses... hence the waiting for a call from the vet to discuss.

In the meantime, if anyone has any theories...

So, after a discussion with the vet...

My vet isn't at all concerned with the muscle enzymes, thinks they are super for a P1 horse :)

The anaemia is a bit of an issue, and there is a possibility Tartine has anaplasmosis, and we need to recheck her blood in 4-6 weeks, but obviously keep an eye on her and if there is any other sign or symptoms of fever, swelling, depression etc to call back sooner. If she is still anaemic at the next check, they will do an antibody test for the parasite and treat if needed. If she is still anaemic and clear then we will have to put our thinking caps on.

Of course being anaemic will also effect exercise tolerance, so I need to go really easy on increasing workload.
