Horse suddenly lame (probably cast in night) on his near hind, resting it and although quite sound in a straight line, a little uncomfortable turned to the left, but very lame and uncomfortable when turned to the RIGHT. No external wounds, heat or cuts. Vet up this evening, and dreading the usual "blank chequebook" routine! Horses are so not fun!

Fanks! My feeling is it's up in his pelvis, which, usefully enough, is excluded, hence hoping for something further down!

Cheers hun! Ian got a quick getaway from work so he might be able to come up with me... just know it's gonna end up with him going in for everything possible that costs lots of money!

Tell vet to check for lminitis first. I had exactly the same problem and it was laminitis. Yes, I know it is usually in the front feet but my lean cob managed to get it in his hind feet.

Hi all!

Vet saw him last night and suspects the hock or stifle, mainly the hock. He's going in next Tuesday for nerve blocks and x-rays (having quickly checked with the insurers!) which will tell us more. Worst case scenario is a bone chip or something, but I'm hoping for something that doesn't require surgery!

I would be quite interested in hearing your result? I have had a very similar issue with my horse- £2k (ouchie !!!!) later and lots of nerve blocks and x-rays they havent found anything (she goes 4/10 lame one day and totally sound the next). They isolated it to the felock area (after initially thinking it was the hock). Seems ok now though... Fingers crossed for you!
