My gelding, Wings, is out 24/7, and the other day was rolling in the snow, which I thought nothing about. Today, when I came up to the stables, one of the liveries told me that she thought he was dead, because he was flat out lying in the snow. But when she walked over, he got up and was fine. I got him in, gave him hay, his feed, and turned him out again. I left about 10 mins later, and when looking in the field, he was lying down again, but not flat out. It didn't seem like he was colicing or anything, as he was eating fine etc. but it just seemed weird to me.

He has a blanket clip, and is in a heavy weight rug with a lightweight underneath, which is checked daily. He wasn't really hot or anything, the base of his ears were cool if anything. Does anyone know why he may be doing this, or is he just weird haha?

Thanks

I was thinking that, but then I thought that because he was clipped, he wouldn't be haha. The base of his ears weren't really warm, but I'll take off his bottom rug and see if that makes a difference. Thanks for your help

Yep, will do. It's weird though, because last year he lost a lot of weight and seemed cold all the time, with the same rugs on as now, however this year, he seems toasty, if not too warm hehe

My mare has been in for a week now, shes had all 3 of her rugs on as shes recovering from an injury which has knocked her about and shes lost loads of weight

went down this morning, mucked her out and put down a fresh bale of straw, she went down trying to roll in it, stopped her rolling and she was going mad rubbing herself round the stable door. Took her rugs of and she was really sweaty! just left the stable MW on and she was fine then
