Weird things that your horse likes to eat!

Amber likes camomile tea (used it as a calmer when on box rest- didnt help but she liked it), bananas and rich tea biscuts.

She hates mints though.

Gypsy once got out of her stable and ate a bag of rabbit food and also pinched a paper bag of red hot sweets from my pocket once.

A bite of something bad a couple of times of a year hasn't done mine any harm. Of course I would never suggest he has burgers and chips as his staple diet! I wouldn't even feed cod liver oil because I don't think horses should have it (being herbivores). I don't see the harm in them having the odd bite of something they shouldn't - 99% of the time its something he's nicked off a passing unsuspecting human anyway!

I watched a programme once about people that fed their dogs chocolates, sweets etc, treating them as if they're human and the vet on the programme was horrified and basically telling the owners they were doing the animal no favours. Horses and dogs should be fed as animals, whether they seem to like junk food or not. Waiting to see if there is an adverse reaction is not very responsible IMO.

Polos are sweets - is feeding them to horses wrong too?

I've seen thread like this before and I really can't understand why anyone would feed their horse fizzy drinks or burgers etc

Seems to be asking for trouble to me....

Well, no-one has said 'i gave my horse coke and it keeled over and died' so, as far as I can see, it hasnt done any of them any harm! And if this is to be considered another act of 'cruelty', then I am glad that there are others already incriminated along with myself! LOL!

Gosh! You are truly obsessed with referring back to THAT thread. Get over it already...

Maybe no one has said that, or is likely to, but I still don't understand why you would risk feeding your horse something so likely to be bad for it. Fizzy drinks make us burp, they cause gas. We know that horses can't burp, gas can only go one way and they can only fart. We also know how long their digestive system is, it's only going to cause trouble along the way.... WHY on earth would you want to risk that?! It just seems reckless to me. I value my horses far too much...

Erm......get over it? get over what, exactly? It's quite clear to me that you consider feeding 'sweets' cruel, and so why should I not state this fact? As I was saying, I'm not singling myself out here; look at all the other people here whose horses have penchants for kebabs/sausages/burgers/guiness etc. Sheesh, so much for freedom of speech! I did not title this thread 'Do you think feeding your horse sweets/burgers/alchohol is cruel?' therefore I HAVE NOT courted controversy, HAVE NOT singled myself out and HAVE NOT harked back to a previous thread. Get over yourself! If what you have to say isnt appropriate to the thread, then why not just keep out!
