My 15 yr old ISH has developed problems with his wind. He is competed at RC level, attends fun rides and has displayed no issues, but when asked for a lot of galloping ie out hunting (which is his main winter 'job'), becomes breathless and a couple of times has struggled to breath as if choking.

My immediate thought were laryngeal paralysis, but the strange thing is that he does not make any noise such as whistling or roaring. These attacks come out of the blue and may not occur for weeks.

I have the vet booked next week for scoping but if anyone has any ideas I would be keen to hear,

Many thanks.

Hi there. Did you see the inside nature's giants programme on channel 4, when they dissected a race horse? There was a very interesting section explaining why horses have airway obstruction when galloping. It sounds very much like what you describe.
It's still available to watch on Iplayer for a few days

It's a really fascinating programme, but a little gory....
