Deftly nervous this morning, as after getting my new coblet in the summer and having 4 wonderful months getting to know him just hacking round the local countryside this morning we’re finally taking him over for a schooling/getting to know you session with a local instructor I’ve never met before (but comes highly recommended) ahead of hopefully me having some lessons going forward. I’m mid 40’s and usually confident in life but this is making me feel nervous. He’s a wonderful happy hacking dude but on the few occasions I took him in our small grass school he has strong opinions on how much “work” he should be expected to do 🙈 any advice much appreciated

Just go with the flow. If your hacking confidently that's a huge bonus. You will have your trainer there to guide you. Most horses have strong opinions about working!! I'm sure by the time you have finished and have come away with some tips to move forwards with you will be beaming!! Let us know how you get on, relax and enjoy!

Ahh thanks I hope so, as a returning rider I don’t have much confidence but really want to brush up and improve for Merlin, my pony. Today she’s going to ride him for 30 mins to see how he goes do you think I should go expecting to get on or not today?

Sorry , late back to this. Hopefully you've had a fab time but yes, I would get on even if it's only to cool down after his work out.

So aside from some trouble getting him loaded which resulted in him getting loose and running round the yard (he hasn’t loaded solo for months) which meant that he got there a sweaty mess the session went fab. The instructor was a marvellously quiet rider who really seemed to get him to relax and listen. He had a couple of “this is too hard, please stop” moments but on the whole it was nice to watch. Although she didn’t say a lot whilst riding him we’re going back on Thursday for another session of her schooling before I then have lessons on him. Off to practice loading this morning with a bucket of feed so he arrives less stressed on Thursday
