Well today I took my 'unrideable' mare to a dressage test this mare has NEVER been to any kind of competion/outing/lesson away from home. I have had her for 5 months- and we have had some serious ups and downs. I didnt expect to be able to ride her today at all. Well she loaded up without an issue (suprise 1) she then travelled well, and unloaded and tied her up to the trailer- she went straight for her hay and rested a back leg (suprise number 2) so tacked her up and led her down to warm up - head was low, calm no spooks (suprise three) got on and rode having not practiced the test at all. Not a spook- she did what she was told- rode the test and achieved 63.3% and 5th place! (biggest suprise 4)
Shock! we were placed! she was a star and i cried! She had never been ridden in an indoor arena, never seen white dressage boards and never seen mirrors- ok- so she didnt work in any form of outline but sh did what was asked- and she really humbled me.
I have realised its these little moments that mean so much and not acheiving big scored on a pushbutton horse. It also made me realise how far we had come together, and how much I i loved her and had learnt from her- So Thank you to all of you for the advice!
