Such a lovely freestyle last night at Olympia. Horse and rider in harmony and clear to see 'Barney' was trying hard and listening to Carl, who rode as he always does, with lightness and sympathy.
We get so used to Charlotte winning everything with Valegro and obviously if he'd been there last night the result would most probably have been different. But Carl and Nip Tuck beat other more established combinations with a daring routine.
Even before he'd finished his centre line he'd completed a line of changes and a canter pirouette. Brilliant.
Would you believe it but its his first Olympia win in all the years he's been competing there.
If ever someone deserved a bit of the limelight its Carl Hester. he is a credit to British Dressage and British sport in general.

What a fabulous result and very well deserved. He is, as you rightly say, a credit to British Dressage and sport in general.

Hear hear! I've just watched a video of it and whilst it wasn't flawless, it was so lovely to watch. I love Barney, and he's come such a long way in the past year or so. He looked so relaxed, and Carl had such a light contact. They make a great combination and seem to have that elusive understanding that makes it all look so effortless.

Another person cheering here. A lovely evening watching on the red button, nearly well done BBC, just wanted 5minutes of the prize giving for it to be perfect.

absolutely

I stayed up to watch his test on the red button but didn't get the results so I saw his post on facebook this morning saying how happy he was & I'm happy for him, really well deserved

Bummer - I didn't know it was on TV!! I just love Carl - he is a generous and kind man! a well deserved win - lets hope there are many more in 2016.

Well done Carl!! I was lucky enough to be at Olympia last night and it was a fabulous evening of dressage, topped only by the prize-giving when the applause hit the roof!! I was thrilled for him, a fantastic moment.

Great post, and a great result for Carl :) I get so annoyed that he is often overshadowed by Charlotte (who of course is undeniably talented whatever my personal thoughts about her!) - he deserved that win, I am really really pleased for him.

However if I won the lottery I would try and buy Uthopia..... OMG that extended trot..... :) :) :)
