How lovely was it to see Geoff Billington win the Hickstead Derby after so many years of struggling by against the big names with little support at times. Well done, such a pleasure to watch.

Congratulations Geoff.
He really deserved to win, he rode such a cracking round, he is such a great character. Hope to see him and Cassabaccus at Hickstead next year defending their title!

Pity I read this post now as I am just watching it on video, so I now know who won!

I presume that the 1st prize was donated by Ginsters, Pukka or some other pie manufacturer...

and that quip about the young chap that came 2nd - his dad is GBs dentist and he told them to run the horse

good result - GB as rider and GB as trainer of the 2nd

Yes I agree with Dr James. I Skyboxed the derby so I could watch it as a treat once I'd finished my dissertation, and so I knew who'd won before I started watching it.

Didn't even have the chance of not reading the thread as it was right there in the title.

At least I'll know for next time to stay off here if I've Skyboxed something.

Still, great competition.

hues congrats to him. He was so sweet in the prize giving!
Massive congrats to andy too we were all bidding him on!

nice to see both his winning horse and the other grey he rode earlier are scottish owned. Also great to see so many greys doing well. Thoroughly enjoyed watching it!

Couldn't be more pleased with the result! What a great guy, great horse and a great round. Well deserved. My OH really didn't get why I was shouting so much about him getting the lead and when the next three got poles down (to my shame, I hate cheering when someone loses but I couldn't help it!). Let's hope he's back to defend it next year.

Yay, well done to Geoff, Andy and David. Have been a big fan of Geoffs for years, so was chuffed to bits to see him win, and he "didn't give a monkeys about the time fault".

Andy, is a great rider, who's showing such promise (yes you must be so proud Fresh! - and rightly so). And David McP getting Guy's ride (shoulder injury), rode a great round too.

Well done to all.

that is a bit out of order... and un-called for.

I still haven't watched it, but was really pleased to know Geoff had won. He is such a character, have seen a few of his demos and they are brilliant. Even my son,( who loathes anything to do with horses) enjoyed one we saw at Nantwich show. He came home and started to tell his sister how to ride combinations, went down really well!

Brilliant result. For me the competition was made special because of the Commentary team, Steve Hadley is the Best! Eurosport please take note.

So sooooo pleased for Geoff!
