I thought I had seen some terrible stories of dog mismanagement, but this beats them all

I heard this on the radio first thing this morning, how absolutely disgusting

Glad that the IPCC is involved. Poor dogs

poor dogs. whoever was supposed to be looking after them should be sacked.
last year i tried to stay in a car in hot weather (was parked in dodgy area in South Africa!) and after 5 minutes, even though i was parked in the shade, it was absolutely unbearable, i couldn't believe how fast the temperature rose.
poor dogs.

This has really shocked me. I have grown up with my local dog unit and they treat their dogs like royalty, if not an extention of their own selves, they dot every 'i' and cross every 't'.
What is going on? Why has someone who should know dogs inside out done such a stupid thing?
Unfortunately I have seen this happen before in civilian life, those poor dogs.

I read that police dog cars sometimes have run locked mechanisms where the engine and ac keeps going even when the car is locked. I really, really hope that it turns out to be the case that this failed in some way rather than the handler just couldn't be @rsed to do the right thing...

Not that makes a difference to those poor dogs but it will restore a bit of my faith in humanity...

West Mercia certainly havent got that system - dog section was based at HQ where I worked, so we regularly encountered numerous vehicles with the tailgates left open and barking inhabitants

Like you say, I really hope that Notts DO have that system

I cannot imagine the horror those poor animals must have experienced in their last moments. How could someone who handles dogs for a living do this?! Really wish I hadn't opened this thread, it's made me so sad and angry...

Unfortunately this type of incident is NOT rare!! There is a big showground not far from me and the rspca regularly perform 'car park duty' in the summer during big events/shows and you can guarantee that several cars per show will have to be broken into!! The police should know better as they are the ones sometimes prosecuting for these offenses!!

If the responsible officer(s) are prosecuted then they will receive a criminal record and therefore should and probably will lose their job plus fines etc... Lets see what the RSPCA investigation and IPCC find. I just hope, from officers who handle dogs for a living that there was some reason (i.e failed air con equipement etc) to blame rather than incompetance and stupidity!

I am not convinced that they will lose their jobs over this - lots of police officers have criminal records of one kind or another!
