One of the new colts we've got....Halter broken, washed out and trimmed up. He was half hairy before but thought he'd make a nice SHP type so decided to deck him out and see what he looked like.......! Knew he'd scrub up well, but never would have thought that much!

Think he'll make a nice little SHP when older and broken in :)

I was actually just admiring him on Horsemart! Was thinking if he was 16hh or I suddenly shrunk i'd be chasing after you by now :D

Thankyou!

No, I didn't bother to take any before pics, we were thinking halfway through bathing him that we should have lol!

Neither does pulling do it for me I'm afraid, especially on a baby. It's raked and trimmed up at the sides. Each to their own :)

edited - RushyJ makes them for the main website photos with some programme, I just copy the image link from it and copy it onto here...I'm not that techinically minded lol! :)

Yes a lovely horsey, I have one of those too, his mane's about 1 1/2 foot long, and his tail is touching the ground, I so want to pull and cut and trim, but as he's for sale I don't want to take away any potential buyers wanting to show him in native classes etc! Once it's gone you can't stick it back on!! lol!! although i have to say when his 'hair's all combed through he's like a real live my little pony!!! lol!!!

Thankyou for all the comments. :) He's a quite little gem, not bad for a yearling [well rising 2] :).

I can assure you, it is not clipped all round. It's raked over, trimmed up the sides and done as a SHP should be. Seeing as my boss did his tail [RushyJ for all others who know her on here], any tails have always been done this way with us and never been commented or frowned upon with any judge yet. But feel free to PM her.

Useful sort :)

As for the tail, who really cares?
If Binky is happy with it that's all there is to it. Really, if anyone else doesn't like it then tough - he isn't yours, it isn't going to affect his health or well being, and at the end of the day, it is only hair, it will grow back;)

Worse things happen at sea FGS!:)

Well feel free to come and see him in person if his 'clipped' tail is that offensive. I'm not getting into discussion on how or how not his tail is done. I have no issue with it whatsoever. It's done exactly the same as any of the others done, including the ones photographs, only difference being he's rising 2 and the other are all fully matured 17.2+ hunters should make a shred of difference.
Like I said, each to their own.

Thankyou everyone else! Shame he's not just that little bit older to start a bit of work :)

Thank you all for the lovely comments he is a really sweet little boy.

Just to put the tail issue to bed once and for all lol. It is clipped down the sides and layered and raked on top. We do not pull tails on our horses due to showing a lot of heavyweights with draught blood in them when you are pulling tails and they are bleeding no matter how little you pull I find it awful. Quite a number of well known showing pros do the same thing for the same reason (many HOYS wins between them) and this means the attitudes are changing re pulling v clipping tails. None of us would choose the rake option as it looks very amateurish when done and the tail hairs would be so depleted by the end of the season.

All the above horses had their tails done the same way by the same person....me. His tail was not skinned down at the sides as he is only a baby and the pink skin can be easily irritated but then can't we all!!!! :)

I am sorry, but the tail looks clipped to me. I rake my horses tail to look like it is PULLED. The tail on your horse looks awfull.

It's a lovely youngster, stop throwing buckets of cold water over the OP. It's a baby. it doesn't matter what you think his tail is like, hair will grow. The whole exercise was done to see what he would look like,by the sounds of it, not for a competition. Don't be such a wet blanket.

Lovely boy :) He looks very nice all done up.

I think the tail looks fab ;) That's how they are done in Aus, they really do look nice IMO, plus I don't think a pulled tail looks as neat. Each to their own though! At the end of the day it's just a different way to style hair.

He is very sweet and very smart!

You think his tail is bad? My andalusians tail looks like this:
