My vets have just started a new "Well Veteran Horse" scheme and I signed Sunny up. He had his first work-up today - 2 solid hours of examination, testing, discussion, you name it. Back, teeth, feet, limbs, lungs, heart, gut, breathing rate, remaining eye, feed, weight, management. Checked every inch of his body for odd lumps and bumps. Gentle flexion test and he was almost 100%. 2 little hooks rasped off his teeth. Blood taken to test for liver and kidney function, platelet count, white blood cell count, protein levels, early Cushings. Pregnancy test for him would have been extra lol. He's as right as rain apart from a bit of stiffness in his hocks, minor Summer Pasture allergy. Remaining eye has the optic nerve of a 10 yr old. Vet says he's as sound as a horse half his age and should go on for years. Not bad for a one-eyed 23 year old eh?
