I'm bored this morning I guess. A horse at the barn has coliced 4 times in 3 months. And twice this week, Sat and Tuesday. This horse belongs to my landlord but another woman is taking care of him.
Horse is now on her horse's routine which is in 15-16 hours per day. The horse used to live out mostly. He is older, 18. So she immediately says he's wormy and his teeth need done. Ok fine fair enough even though de wormed a month ago and teeth were done 18 months ago. No sharp edges and no dropped grain and other signs. I catalog mention he needs out more moving around.
Well though her head was gonna pop off. She goes on to say vet says he needs more forage. Um yes kind of happens when out more. But I added he also needs to move more. She adds he needs lusher grass. I point out many horses go without grass be it competition, fatties, ect and don't colic as often as this horse who has an empty belly for at least 8 hours. I'm being generous with that time frame. She moved paddocks today and has announced they will only be out 2 hours with an hour break inside, then out 3 hours, in for an hour, back out for 3 til in for the night. These horses have grass daily. She announces the grass is much longer and deadly as well as bitter. I point out longer grass is better. She looks at me again with half rage and says well that's stupid. Who said that. Me, um common knowledge. She says that's stupid. Long grass is terribly bitter. Really I was at a loss for words and left it. Now she's blaming the fact he had no rug on in cool temps. Everything bar the fact that the horse is in too long, going for long periods without forage, and had no previous issues when did stay out longer.
Pointless post really. But had to have a wee vent. I also did have to google long grass and horses to make sure I wasn't batty and misinformed!
