Well I have managed to find a non labour saving job at the yard

I was offered the opportunity to buy a nice big round bale of Straw, so I thought that would be nice

Mmmmm well I have now got the sorest fingers you could ever imagine .... so wondered if there was an easier solution to 'grabbing' a handful that does not take half an hour
ooo.gif

As I have not been able to store it so that I can 'unwrap' it, due to space, it is wedged into my store and I can only get to one side and the front .... so apart from getting a machete to it, how can I manage to get enough straw, equivilant to a bale, without coming out from my store in a temper

I honestly don't think there is a solution to this one

am afraid it sounds like until you get near the middle your gonna need to be eating your 3 shredded wheat!!!! once you are however at the centre, you can either pull the midsection out which should loosen the whole lot or pull it over (onto its belly) and take it from what will then be the top!!

I had this problem last year!! I used to get a sharp knife and score the bale, it sort of cuts the straw do one line then another the otherside then fork the straw inbetween out with a pitchfork, unfortunately there is no easy solution... sorry not much help!!

Mmmm think I have the gist of what you are saying so will give that a go .... sounds like the machete solution may not have been the wrong one! ** sniggers **
Thank you

Always pull the hay from the bottom.

We use big round bales, and as long as you do this they shouldn't become 'jammed'.

If you can get at the back of it with a fork to pull some of it away then you will be able to unwrap some straw, try and get your hands on an empty fertilizer bag then you can fill that and drag it without making too much mess. 4 -5 of them jam packed gives me a decent bed with big banks in an 11x 15 box.

We have no choice on our yard but to do battle with big bale everything, it also usually involves weaving in and out of machinery at the sametime!

If they're like the big haylage bales then you need to get the sausage out the middle then it all goes loose and you can pull it nout easily.
