Well, I was rigid with fear . . .

. . . for about a quarter of the ride (and not because he did anything wrong), but we went out for a 90-minute hack with two other liveries this morning . . . out in the forest where there are scary bicycles, noisy children, prams/pushchairs, huuuuge scary piles of logs, logging signs, logging machinery . . . and he didn't put a foot wrong. Lots and lots of hillwork, a nice brisk pace (walk only) and what a beautiful day to be doing it . . . I am sooooo very pleased with him. My hacking buddy (J) and I plan to make Sat/Sun mornings our forest days and will tackle the gallops in the lighter evenings. Next time out we'll introduce some trot work and work up to some gentle canters up those hills.

He is now out in the field having a well-deserved munch - NAKED!

And . . . breathe!

Glad you had a lovely hack and have lots more to come. I do think a little fear is part of riding. I have some lovely hacks here some which involve fear which gives you a real buzz when home safely!

Thanks Hobo - that was our first hack out since he bolted with me last week, but he never once looked like being silly today.

Glad you had a good hack, I bet you feel great now you've done it! Kali sounds like he's doing really well. Hopefully you'll have a lovely hack next time too :)

I do feel great :). And, yes, he is being a very good boy as he comes back into work. I did enjoy it, but, yes, hopefully I'll be relaxed the WHOLE way round next time ;).

Em has a lesson on him this afternoon (very low key) and I have a dressage clinic tomorrow evening with Tracey Lawson . . . very much looking forward to that! Then I'll give him Tuesday off - as he'll have worked every day for more than a week (shock horror).

Well done! I know what you mean - I have some rides that I have parts I poop myself on - and just have to practice my best "I'm not scared" impersonation to get past those bits lol.

I was having an entertaining ride this morning, riding my mare and leading the driving pony, both in season, and both VERY full of it lol. But we got back in one piece, which is the main thing :)

yay Happy post!!! without sounding blunt... what is your horse? lol! It sounds young? I am planning on having boy hacking out this year, so scared and excited at the same time!!! :D

He's a Polish sporthorse with a fairly high percentage of TB, but . . . no, he's not young - just a bit of a monkey with a numpty for an owner ;).

We don't actually know how old he is b/c his passport isn't him . . . but vet and dentist put him somewhere between 10 and 12 (so old enough to know better).

Good luck with your boy.

Yes, I'm perfecting my "I'm not scared" impersonation . . . it does help to breathe :).

You sound just like me! Well done and I am sure the next one will be even better for you.:)

Thank you :). Silly thing is that when I first bought him we hacked everywhere alone with no issues . . . it's amazing what one bad experience can do to the confidence of both horse and rider.

We're getting there though . . . slowly together. I just need to remember not to set him up to fail.
