because as the weather here has drastically improved to become the summer at last, my horse is staying out all night

Not a big deal for some of you, but my horse likes his stable and yard, and starts to want to come in around 4pm (comes in at 5pm ish) having been out since 8am...

Tried it out last sunday but checked on him at 8.30pm and him and his mate were having great fun galloping around field

so brought him in checked and he had been kicked on cannon bone (which took 3/4 days for swelling to go down!

So tonight I have left him out with the filly (who is undeciedly the boss

) and Im bricking it - checked at 9pm and they had a gallop but then stopped and settled again.

I hope he will be fine, I dont think hes ever been out 24/7 since he was a foal!! (he was shown as a young horse)
Please calm me

tell me he will be fine!

On another note, have you put geldings out with mares? and how well did they mix?
Merlin loves this filly, more than the other mare he was with, as they are always side by side grazing and grooming each other! But the filly is definately in charge

My mare is only ever out with geldings - dependant on the nature of the gelding depends if she's in charge really!! She has always got on perfectly with them and I have never seen her kick out - I have seen her being kicked at a few times though! Don't worry about them - I'm sure he'll be fine xxx

Hope it was all ok?!
My horse is a gelding and he goes out with a mare. They were best friends as soon as we put them together!
Don't forget that horses are designed to live outside!

Madam likes geldings ... but unfortunately the only gelding that was at our yard (apart from tommy t) liked the mares too much

...So had to be seperated .

Missy moo is the boss out in the fields ... Shes got an old head on those young shoulders of hers .

She does like to come in but she will quite happily stay out for a few nights .

He will be fine so stop worrying

.
Hope the the kick to the leg has healed up though

Great that you're leaving your horse out, it really is the best for them under most circumstances, we keep all of ours out 24/7 regardless of age and talent and they are absolutely great on it, I am sure yours will be fine and be very appreciative that you are making the effort!

My current yard has mares/geldings seperate, but none others I have been at have done that. We used to have 20 all together in a big field, and they were fine.

He's only eciteable because he's never been out before, they soon get used to it. Mine lives out 24/7 in summer and is prone to less injuries than when he has to come in overnight in winter because he doesn't get excited at being out.
