well its not bucking rearing or bolting but what is it!?!?

Rode my boy today (the new one) i have been told by my friend and instructor he does this funny thing where he weaves really quickly like a bucker trying to pull reins out your hands he then runs like 2 steps and bunny hops but not like a normal one like a full on leap? his tack is checked teeth fine and in snaffle so not bitting... doesn't worry me just funny does anyone else have quirky evasions??

My horse did something my friends described as 'pig rooting' when I first had him where I could feel his back come up underneath me then he would almost feel like bucking but would pull down on the bit and hop forward. It really un-nerved me to begin with and he did eventually buck off said friend. It turned out he had a bad back from an ill fitting saddle before I had him. I gave him about 6 months off but that was due to moving house etc. 18 months on I tend to lunge him quietly for 5 mins sometimes before I get on as he can be a little cold backed. He hasn't done it for a long time now and rarely gets his back up. He's a fab jumper and hunter!

Try a sheepskin or real wool numnah! (or borrow from a friend) My mare was getting joggy and hot when out hacking and she thought we are going to have a canter, then when we did have said canter she would leap (straight up like a stagg and pull down on the reins as she came down) by chance a friend lent me a good numnah and is stopped??? So somehow her saddle rubs her or cold backed??? (dont worry it has been checked and rechecked by a good saddlers) if its something as easy as a new numnah its worth a try!

yeah this sounds spot on and he used to have one with his old rubbish saddle that didnt fit i think its also actually feeling less restricted now that he can move hes super 'enthusiastic' thanks you will def try this!

I think it used to be reffered to as "yawing" - my old ginger used to do this with great aplom.

Head suddenly between front legs, back arches and then we would do tigger leaps - only thing that stopped her was bridging the reins BEFORE we went into a canter.
