Went all the way down to Barbury Castle near Marlborough from Cheshire today with 2 horses for our first point-to-point runners of the season and it feels like it was an awfully long trip for a pulled up and an unseated. The pulled up was my bosses horse, he needed the run, plus the race was not run to his liking, so not a major disappointment. My horse on the other hand I'm gutted about. We jumped off near the back, but he was feeling so well and up for it that by the time we jumped the second fence he had moved up to fifth. My joy at this was short lived however, as when we reached the third neither of us saw a good stride, he clouted the fence, pecked on landing, and i fell off:-( Only my 3rd ride, stupid useless novice riders, eh? He then merrily carried on galloping and jumping for another lap with his leg through the reins:-o I wanted to cry standing there with the medics watching him, but at least he did come over to me and stop (bless him) when he realized that I was still standing more or less where he lost me. Luckily both me and him are in one piece, apart from he has a slightly sore mouth from where the rein kept jabbing him as he was galloping, but I'm absolutely gutted, because he felt much better than he has for a long time and it was over too quickly. Never mind, we'll do better next time, just annoying to have a nearly 8 hour round trip for that.

Well done and thank you for reading my ramblings, sorry I went on a bit, I know I don't post much, but I'm home alone tonight and felt like i needed to get my frustration out.

((hugs))

I remember my friend having a similar thing, finally she decided she was ready to ride her own horse in a p2p race, as opposed to trainer doing it, she was loving it, only managed half a lap though before a fall.

It is a shame but practice makes perfect and everyone falls off sometimes!

That was a shame. Hope it goes better next time

Thanks for your kind words, I know it happens to everyone sometimes, it's just annoying to go such a long way.
Also, unfortunately when I went to check my horse this morning he had a big front leg:-( He's a bit sore on it, but he does have a small scrape on the leg, which I missed when I put the ice tight on after the race. I'm hoping that's what's irritated it and some bute, cold hosing and maybe some antibiotics should sort him out, and it's nothing more sinister. Won't know for sure for a few days though. Bugger!!

That was bad luck for you, hopefully next time you'll all do better!

Having done a few years with pointers, I always feel it's an achievement in itself to actually get them onto the track, so many things can go wrong before then!

Are you at Weston Park or Bangor soon, might see you there?

Had a mare do a tendon once, they put cooling lotion on for the trip home and it blistered her so much, we had to clear the blister before we could ever deal with the tendon, took ages; hope that hasn't happened to your chap.

I'm at the moment still hoping that the tendon is fine, although won't really know for sure until the initial swelling is gone and it can be scanned, I'll just have to see how it goes over the next few days. We have two horses entered at Weston next week, although I've heard rumours that it might be off due to being too wet? And we should be going to Bangor on 25th Feb, there's nothing else in the area that weekend. Where else are you planning on going?

Nice (for us) to hear about a different - and very exciting - horse sport. I hope the horse is well soon and you are both back at the racecourse soon..it sounded as if it will be very promising next time. Please tell us when he is next entered - you have such guts to even attempt this IMHO; so much speed + fences!

I might take 1 or 2 up to Bangor, depending on how wet it is where I plan to run them the weekend before.
Do you have any idea how Selective Approach ran in the restricted?
I remember the first time I unseated, someone said 'just remember it wont be the last time'. So true - youll have forgotten about it within the next few days.

Sorry, i don't know how he got on, I was on my way out of the place when the last race set off. I know this won't be my last unseated, I'm just gutted because he gave me an amazing feel over the first two, and I was really looking forward to the next 16 fences and 2 1/2 miles of galloping. Well, I might have a ride at Weston next weekend (if it's on) on one of my bosses horses, better luck then. are you bringing anything to Weston?
