Well as you all know I recently purchased a little friesian filly and as a result had to sell my mare Rosie which I was very worried about;
a) trying to find her a good and suitable home.
b) actually selling her in this market.

We advertised her for only £1250 inc tack for quick sale and hopefully opportunity to pick and chose buyers a bit. Well after only a day of ads being up we had LOADS of calls and emails - couldn't believe it!
One famiy came up to view her the day after the called and fell in love with her! Despite knowing she can be spooky, she fails a flexion due to mild arthritis, she is terrified of tractors and has this weird thing like mud rash on her back legs (but is isn't had the vet up etc and nobody knows what it is, it clears up then comes back, vet said to just manage it best I could with hbiscrub). They just fell in love with her, shows how much a quiet well mannered horse is worth really! They wanted to take her for a week trial which I was happy with as they sounded PERFECT for her. She is for their daughter to ride to get used to larger horses and if she ends up not being suitable fo that or the daughter starts to ride one of the other horses she will be used in their therapy centre ie will be groomed by disabled people etc which would be prefect for her as she would stand all day!

Sooo ... they came to pick her up on the Sunday, I didn't want to be there as thought it would be too upsetting as sometimes she takes a few attempts to load into a trailer (fine with boxes but thinks shes a giraffe and wont fit in trailer lol) and knew I'd be like oh no shes not loading she knows im selling her blablabla lol.
Got my friend to deal with it, owner of yard and she called later to say Rosie was still with us, tractor spooker her as she was loading and she fell on her side, running of the ramp backwards! They decided to leave her be as she pretty stressed understandbly but thank god not hurt!!

Soo we fed her in the trailer the next few days and she was ok so Thursday night they came up to try again (this time i was there as couldnt forgive myself!) and she loaded perfectly! Then I burst into tears which made Leanne another girl on livery also cry, so she was hugging me while they gathered tack etc. Next thing yard owner was crying AND lady taking Rosie was crying too! Was very emotional! Lol.

The lady text me that night to say she travelled well and settled as though she has always been there and I'm going to visit her today :)
And my new horsey Emma is coming tomorrow!!

Well if you managed to read all of that you deserve multiple bags of jelly tots!! :D

mmmmmm morning jelly tots! :)

sorry it was so emotional but I think it always is when you are selling a horse you really care about! but as you say you know she has gone to a good home where she will be well cared for and loved etc and sounds like you are welcome to visit her which is also nice so you can keep an eye at first to ensure you are happy with it all! :)

and I bet it will chear up when you new filly gets here!

Ah thats so sweet!! They sound such a lovely home and very sensible too. Im sure your mare will be very happy there. Ahh lovely happy ending :)

That sounds like a fabulous home, so many people would have been put off (unjustifiably) by the loading accident and changed their minds. You can tell this family really know horses.

Thanks everyone :)
Yes the people are lovely, they are very laid back and patient - ideal for Rosie. Also they have their own yard which is a bonus as means they are less likely to move her about as I've had to do that alot with her and would love her to be nice and settled! Also she said they are happy to keep in touch if they do buy her and I'm welcome to visit whenever I like and see how she is getting on.
I'm going to see her tomorrow instead now, lady text me today though saying she is doing well & has actually made a friend which Rosie does not normally do! Antisocial is her middle name! Lol.
I was very worried about doing all this but the fact I have found such lovely people has made everything so easy! The girl is 14 who will be riding her and I was 14 when I bought her so I'm soo happy she will teach the girl everything she taught me while I have a whole new and different challenge with Emma :)

It sounds like a very emotional time, when the Current Appy came here, the family we bought her from were all in tears as she unloaded from the trailer, which I can understand as I could never see her go! We kept in touch for a while and I think they were glad to be able to get updates until they knew she was settled.

aw. that brings back memories. i sold my mare almost a year ago and the same day she went, my new boy arrived. there were so many tears shed that day, by me, the new owners and old owners!! its such an emotional thing to say goodbye to a horse, but then partly, i'm sure they were tears of happiness, knowing my mare was going to a good home , and excitement (and apprehension) about my new boy arriving. i visited my old pony a few weeks ago in her new home. she is so settled and well loved. oddly enough, after riding her again i knew i'd made the right decision about selling her and buying Ben. She was a very tricky mareish mare to say the least and Mr Ben, is a willing, happy go lucky gelding.

I'm sure your horse will be treated like a princess :-)
