well priced - your thoughts

If she is looking for a straight dressage horse and wants to be competitive at BD I think its a bit pricey for something thats 9yo with only 6BD points. I suppose it depends what she wants to do and how much ability it has to progress if thats what she wants. The advert emphasises how safe the mare is however and if thats whats a priorty for your friend i suppose you can't put a price on that!!

Sounds a bit too good to be true if you ask me. The first photo doesn't look very "uphill" and the jump isn't special. Looks like they have written it up in a very positive light! However if the journey isn't too far then take a look but make sure you have someone with you who knows what they are doing. "Beware the Chestnut Mare"!!

I think its a bit steep for a horse with next to no affiliated experience.. (2 outings).

If its far to travel, I would see if they can send any video footage, I would also ask if there are venues where she has competed (unaff) that results are available on the website, so you can see what sort of company she was in. Its easy to come 1st out of 3... not so easy to come 1st out of 40 !

I think you're all being a bit harsh.

I think the horse is working in a good novice outline in the first picture - you wouldn't expect the horse to be more uphill at that level. It looks like it has good conformation and is well bred.

And it's got 6 points in two outings - which means it has scored over 65% twice at Affil. Novice - which is pretty good.

Just because it's only started affiliated competition at age 7 isn't a problem in my eyes. 7 years old is still relatively young. If its temperament is as good as described it sounds like the ideal amateurs dressage horse or top class riding club horse.

cp1 - what do you think of the price?

fair?

she is looking at it anyway but she feels it is a little steep.
(she isnt time wasting - she has 10k to spend but wants the right horse with her money as he will be hers for life)

Totally not a dressage person by the way!!

I think it is a lovely horse and it seems to be a nice, good looking, safe all rounder so it has to be worth a reasonable amount, plus if it's good at dressage then that has to be a bonus.

I think 9k is steep though, maybe 7.5k might be more reasonable?

Worth a look a think.

I think it has been priced 'hopefully' to be honest. I guess it depends on what your friend is looking for, if she is looking for a safe horse to have fun on and she wants to have a go at affiliated dressage then this horse may well be perfect for her. In present market conditions she could go in with a fairly good offer as horses just aren't shifting unless they are very well priced.
I will be looking for a horse soon (hopefully) to dressage that I'd like to take to at least medium and this horse wouldn't be for me.
Also... the 6 points in two outings isn't necessarily a horse achieving 65% in two tests, I'd say normally people do two tests a day so therefore the horse could have achieved these points in four tests.

Hi, it's difficult to comment on the price without seeing the horse move - as for dressage horses movement is really key.

I would say if it moves really well, flexes its hocks, comes through from behind, has the basic ability to collect and lengthen within a pace etc. etc. then £9k would be an acceptable price.

However if the paces are more 'ordinary' I'd agree with the comments above - an offer of £7.5 to £8k would be appropriate.

RE. the dressage points - your friend just needs to ask the horse's BD registered name and look its results up online / phone BD and ask for the results and she'll be able to say how the points were accrued and in how many outings. Or she could ask to look at the dressage test sheets when she goes to try it out.

I agree with Weezy, there is no way id pay over 6k for it. 6BD points in 2 outings isnt anything spectacular. It certainly isnt uphill either, well dosent look it from the pictures.

Its jumping dosent look great either, its not making a particulary good shape and its not giving the fence much room.

Its nice, dont get me wrong, but certainly not worth 9k.

Agree, it's not being advertised as an experienced dressage horse, and working in a good outline to the level required, although jumping pic is very poor. Price imo should be nearer £7k

6 points in 2 outings really isn't that much for a horse being advertised at 9k - I would expect at 9k it was close to qualifying for regionals at prelim and novice, and workingat elementary at home. I also agree that it needs to be more uphill in the paces, naturally, if it is to progres up the levels, otherwise it's going to find collection more difficult as well as the lateral work. By the age of 7 I would expect it to have achieved a little more for that price tag. It will make someone a fab top end riding club allrounder but not for 9k. I would say around the 6k mark.

For 9k you could go to a reputable dealer (with comeback) and get a VERY nice 4 or 5 yr old with the best of temperaments and huge ability.

I have a similar horse for sale, he is 7 rising 8 and is perfect in all ways- never naughty and VERY easy to ride. He was a County Level WH but a couple of splints have ended his show career so he is now working on other things! He gained 26 BD points in 5 outings, has BSJA winnings and XC schooled over PN height with ease.
He has just started changes and finds lateral work very easy.
He is also good to hack ect
The best word to describe him would be EASY!
This is him:

He too is Hanovarian.
He is a bit more money however but not mega bucks!
PM me if intrested. :@)

ETA; He is part qualified for the novice regionals and is working easily at Elementary level at home, working towards Medium.

My opinion for whats its worth- Its over priced by £2000 however, It is a nice horse- If you look at first pic which was taken at some sort of championships- even if its on RC stuff- it made the championships at RC level which is good- and shows the horse can work well and correctly at competitions- which for any amature is important. In 2 outings it has achieved points - how many of us here have been out and not got any points at all! so achieving a 100% strike rate. Also yes the jumping pic isnt the best but i think the owner is just trying to show that the horse will jump unlike some dressage horses I have met who have never been shown a coloured pole in its life. All in all a nice horse whos just overpriced. But I like it. Its also a mare and well bred too ( i often see geldings for sale with adds that state their 'amazing breeding' so what its a gelding- it cant have foals who cares who its by etc.) This one can and if it proves itself in the ring in the next couple of years will definately be worth some money.

KP31 I saw your friend's horse advertised previously and thought to myself "why so cheap"... seriously, if it really is a good as described in the advert so-one's going to get a really good deal there!!!

cp1 he is exactly as described, does exactly what it says on the tin and is for sale for a very genuine reason. I know him well and he is an angel. She is desperate for a nice home for him, which is reflected in the price and has had some real muppets try him. He is one of those horses that your grandma could ride and then you take out the next day and win on.

Sorry off topic.

£9k seems very steep for something that has such little experience affiliated. I don't see the "great jump" they've said in the advert either. It's a nice horse, but I don't think it's going to set the world on fire. And I definitely don't think it's worth £9k! Sorry.

well, the horse is scrapeing that jump with its front feet. And even my horse has been placed before in a novice dressage test!

Waw...now I like your horse! If only I had the money at the minute! Hopefully you will find a great home for this chap.
