Bought fleur in this evening put her in stable went straight to get tack came back and just immediately went somethings not right, she was just not at the door and just not her. Started to watch her and she started getting very fidgety and starting pawing the ground. oh b****r says me. After a few mins of this it was pretty obvious she had some form of mild colic, so stuck more bed down and called vet. (looking forward to nice out of hours bill!)
during next 25 mins waiting for vet to arrive she dug up the bed passed a pile of droppings but looking uncomfortable. Typically about 5 mins before vet arrived she started to settle to point she started to try eat her straw bed so she got tied up.
When vet arrived breathing returned to near normal and pulse/temp fine although very bloated. she was sedated and he had a good 'feel' inside (poor mare!) and confirmed no compaction etc.
She has had some relaxant and pain killers interveneously and when I finally ledt about an hour ago she was back to her old self but very annoyed that she is being left in (stolen the one stable with shavings for the night!) and has no food whatsoever.
Going back to check her in about an hour (thankgod for living only 5 mins from yard although groom living on site I just want to check personally for my own piece of mind).
Come to the conclusion the rich grass which has sprung up in the last few days was just too much she has completly bloated herself and has just got a rather large gas buildup. So she will have to stay in for a few nights now to get use to the grass again (even though never previously been a prob!)
Just as well I immediatley noticed something was wrong though as otherwise would have just chucked tack on and ridden!
