Saw Consultant today.

Back is not yet right. If it's not right by February, I'll have to have the operation they wanted to do initially. Didn't want it, though if I had, I'd be riding by now.

He's not happy with the number of miles I'm driving, nor the number of hours I'm sat behind a desk.

Pah.

On the plus front, if my back does behave and stop whinging, I can start riding in February :D

Wish you al the very best to a full recovery. Now be a good patient! Stop driving so much! (I bet that;s impossible though, what with having to do what you have to do, like all of us). I really, really hope by Feb you are able to get back on again. Hugsx

Poor you! Fingers crossed that you don't have to have it.

I'm in that camp too! Saw my consultant last week, and after a six week wait from the investigatory operation I had, he said he is putting me on the wait list for another op (why they had to wait six weeks to do that I have no idea!) The waiting time for the op is about six months, and the recovery time was 5 months last time - so thats another competition season gone! So fed up! I actually got on both horses last week, which was nice! My mare hadn't been say on for 7 months, so that was a bit bouncy! The gelding had been left two months, and was great. I have to be escorted by someone in case my shoulder falls to pieces though!

Was he just trying to nicely tell you to do as you're bloody well told?! I really hope things mend quickly and well. Sounds like you are fitting an awful lot in, maybe just try adn steady up and do as you're told though to help things improve!

Is there no way you can cut back on the amount of driving for another month or so? It might just help your back recover quicker and then in the long run you will need less time off work. Listen to Mr consultant, he should know his stuff!

Fingers crossed for february! xx

Honey08 I lost the last three seasons through shoulder injury-not to mention a couple more back in the mists of time-you're just a beginner!! Mrs M the time will pass quicker than you think and at least you are spared riding in this awful weather!

Bummer. :( I'm sorry to hear your news. I hope your back does recover enough for you to start riding in Feb (thats such a long time to wait) But do listen to your consultant. I got back on a horse 4 months after breaking my hip. (when my surgon said I shouldn't even walk without crutches for 6 months) Unfortunatly I was forced back to work by my boss at the time :(. I now walk with a limp and often have pain in my hip. today in the rain it's worse than ever and I think i'm gonna pay for it all when i'm older :( I wish I had listened to my surgon life may be alittle easyer now if I had.
Try to take things alittle easyer if you can it'll make things so much better in the long run. ((((((((hugs))))))))) xx

Thanking you all kindly. Gentle hugs for broken people.

I can't just take time off now (work), as in no money coming in if I do. We're between other contracts so it's just me (it's been one of those years!). This contract ends at the end of December, so I will have January off.

Ah well. Must away to a piece of work or I will suddenly be faced with being 'free' an awful lot sooner :rolleyes:

Oh dear, what a nuisance, please do just try to do a little less if you possibly can in the hope you will mend yourself and avoid the op. Winging lots of positive healing vibes on to you and best wishes for a full recovery by Feb, really, really feel for you Mrs M.........there but for the grace of God and all that :-(

Be patient, fingers crossed for feb..... My back is awful if I drive, or am in the car for too long, so be careful, try to stop now and then and get out and have a good stretch. xxx

You poor thing MrsM, not what you wanted to hear I know. Sitting behind a desk is not good. I can do 4 hours at a time and sometimes I can't walk when I get up!

Just make sure you do nothing in January. xxxx

So sorry to hear your news, I have not been on the forum for awhile so I have not been in the loop, I do hope that the time passes quickly for you, and as previously posted at least you aren't missing good riding weather, it is very grim ATM!
Look after yourself xxxxxx

Lol! But I'm not a beginner - I lost another two seasons three years ago as I have had the op before. Was doing really well with a pinned shoulder when the youngster decided to put an end to his first season of proper competing by rearing up and kicking my shoulder (and pins) back out again! Three years ago it wasn't so bad as my other horse can be picked up and put down - honest and nothing to prove/learn, but this youngster really ought to be doing more, not sitting smugly in the field!!

Mrs M, chin up hun. Hope the bath and good book helps. Have a hot choccie with Baileys in it while you're at it!

Sorry high jacking MrsM's post again-Honey you must be in my area-I've just gone to new shoulder physio and fingers crossed there is light at end of tunnel and no more knifing-well maybe one but not much time off pm me if you want info

MrsM,
Firstly, I reserve the right to whack you just a little bit because I distinctly remember SOMEONE telling me to do as I was told by my doctors... HMPH in your general direction!!

Secondly, I am sending you very gentle hugs my little squishy, and you're welcome to come and join me in the whelk bucket. Although, it's just a bucket now - no whelks allowed in hospital - the pathetic noises that whelks make when they're dying slow, horrible deaths are quite irritating apparently...

I was having a good old sob fest and general pity party earlier, and my lovely friend Jack sent me a text which made me feel SO much better.... here is that text for you, along with lots of love and get well soons...

"Everything will be ok in the end. If it's not ok, it's not the end. xxx"

Aw MrsM, I recommmend listening to the Dr as riding with back pain makes it slightly less enjoyable ;) On the plus side though, I have developed a good cross country style seat lol! :D

Muchos sympathy - have a bad back myself, but it doesn't restrict my working and riding to anywhere near the same degree! Fingers are crossed for you that it's all well for February 80) On the upside though, if you do need the op then it'll be worth it - one step back for two or more mightly leaps forward! Had two family members get a back op to help with the same problem I have in the past year - they've both said it was totally worth the discomfort and boredom of the op and recovery to be pain free and unrestricted again 80)

Mrs M - only just seen this, like I said yesterday, I've been a complete sloth and my back still hurts when I make cheese on toast! It's no wonder you're hurting, if you're having to drive so much and have the pressure to keep on going.

Please take EVERY opportunity to rest when you can. I hope you're planning a very chilled Christmas in your house this year. To bring back a 80/90's? phrase, January is now officially Mrs Mozart's Month of Monging!

Rest up and have some of that hot choccy you're always dishing out! From one broken back to another, do as you're told!

Aw poor you. But Feb is a while off and you might heal lots in that time.

I rode for the first time since I broke my arm today...then went to see the bone doctor to who ordered me not to ride until after Christmas. Bums Bums Bums!

I elected not to tell him I'd had a lesson this morning....ho hum.
