Went to the butchers the other day to ask him for some raw bones for pup. I've been in before and bought them off the butchers wife with no bother. I always state how old she is and she gives me bones of an appropriate size which Ella loves and has no trouble eating.
Though this time butcher himself was there and asked my usual question. I was met with a face of pure horror, and he exclaimed that i shouldn't be feeding raw bones to my puppy, did i want to kill her? I shouldn't be feeding any kind of raw meat to her at her age (18 wks) and that he would never in a million years feed RAW bones.

I was astounded at his ignorance. Now, i know its perfectly okay to feed raw at her age and to feed raw bones. Their shop was my only source of bones so now im a bit stumped as to where to go next.

Just a grumble really at the incompetent butcher :(

The butcher I used to use would query me feeding chicken legs. I put the point across that if he wanted my business and my money, he would sell me the chicken legs and I could do what I liked with them :p

Before I had a good supply, I sourced chicken bits and bobs from Asda, Iceland, Tescos, Sains, the bargain bin especially!! Re bones, some of the larger raw suppliers sell bags of bones.

I had a field day in the reduced section of sainsbury's yesterday!
I think honeys sell bags of bones but when i emailed them for some advice i got no reply :( Will try again, could you recommend anyone else?

Landywoods sell bones too! Look them up online. I think it's £4.00 for a bag of 10-12 marrow bones and they have a good variety.

Must admit I struggle to make it to the local butchers so I head to Sainsbo's frozen section - bags of cheapo beef/pork mince then add frozen pork chops and they also do bags of drumsticks. It's all decent quality and far cheaper than the fresh range. But I do sub in anything that's in the reduced section as well and add in some offal when I can get it - Tesco's is actually better for this as ours does heart and other bits that Sainsbos don't.

In Sainsbury, there are bags of frozen chicken bits which costs under £3 kg, dirt cheap, so I stock up when I see them.

I did just that this evening. Also managed to get a whole chicken dirt cheap so have breasted it and made chicken wellington for myself and OH, removed legs/thighs and wings for Ella's tea tomorrow and given her the carcass for tea tonight :D

Oh gets something called duck but it's spelt differently ( helpful aren't I) they do bones I think :)

I couldn't feed raw from a butchers as I hate the places and would be too scared to go in lol! I'm happy to squeal and throw a chicken carcass at something tho!

I'm another who uses Landywoods, they do a bag of meaty lamb bones (about 5 lbs in weight) for £5, a bag (12 approx) of marrow bones for £5 too.
My lot get meaty lamb bones, chicken wings, turkey wings and turkey necks, they love them.
I have the up to date price list sent to me by landywoods if anyone wants it as they don't have the prices on their site now, pm me for the list, Oz :)
