Two dogs and two rats later.....!!!

Our Goldie is starting Cartrofen injections for her HD - 4 once a week for the next four weeks - has anybody any experience of this?

Our Shepherd has a nailbed infection - in one toe on the back foot, she is very sore bless her. She is still VERY nervous with people and tried to go for the vet - fortunately we have an amazing vet who spent 10 minutes sat on his haunches with her, stroking her, checking her eyes, ears, teeth, paws and making her let him examine her. She's on antibiotics - he's holding off steroids as when she has a sock on she does leave it alone.

Otto and Dali - the two rats - have started to sneeze, a mild case of mycoplasma I believe and I am praying to God it doesn't get any worse, so they are on Baytril.

I bet the vets are rubbing their hands together!!! ;)

My old dog Boz had cartrophen, it worked wonders on him. He had been a little stiff, he was 15 tho so i expected him to be so. The cartrophen probably gave him another year of comfort. He seemed no longer stiff, and actually believed he could leap into the boot of the car again. I would def use it again, and to be honest for dogs it was very cheap, about £5 a shot and one injection fee for the 4 weeks of £25 total :)

Brilliant to know that B, thank you :) she is only 10 but has had severe hip dysplasia from a relatively young age, so I really hope it gives her a new lease of life, as we have a young shepherd too now and she wants to keep up!

Buffy was on Cartrophen for 2 years plus, and it made a huge difference. She used to have painful flare ups with her spondylosis but never had one for the last 2 years . Hope your GSDs nail improves soon, poor girl.

cartophen is wonderful for the oldies, and relatively cheap in the broad spectrum. had an old horse who had first cartophen from vet and next 3 a week apart from me and re juvinated him for several months. cartrophen is mainly used in cats and dogs tho, but works on the old stiff horses too. for the gsd with a nail bed infection try tubbing it strong saline solution (as well as the A-b).

Thanks guys, really good to know that people have had good results with cartrophen :) just hope to ease the discomfort a bit for her!
dressagedreamer, tell me about it, just praying nothing happens with the horse now, we've seen her vet far too often!!!!
