Moved today all went well.

Jan set off in the trailer and obviously took an alternative route to the one I did as I arrived at the yard to find Vardi already there holding court in the middle of the yard.

Vardi spent the day out in a paddock on his own with a horse on each side (one of whom was a 32 year old Shetland who he found mildly disturbing as frankly it ain't normal being that small in his opinion).

Before he was turned out Jan measured his height 168 and growing! weight taped him 550 kilos, took his temperature (didn't go down well!) wormed him, checked all his hooves (rasped one off that was a bit chipped, booked in with his Farrier for Friday) checked out all his scars and rubbed with Aloe Vera all in all bit of an MOT!

He led him out to the paddock making him stop, move away, back up and announced that training had started already.

Vardi took it all in his stride a bit "what in the name of hell did I do to deserve that lot mum" but was happy when he had a mound of hayledge delivered to the paddock.

Brought him in at 5pm and he inspected his stable dug up my beautifully prepared bed finding the carrots that they had hidden amounst his bedding.

I left him happy as larry at 6pm havng just been given his evening meal of what they call mixed grains and slobber poured over Lucerne grass (a sort of hot horse porridge) which he was busily smearing all over the walls so he had some for later. bless.

He will be turned ou alone tomorrow then they will put him out with one other (similar in age) then another so there is a gang of three and all being well he will be put out in his group of 4 by the end of the week but with his two ready made mates.

I am off for a hot bath to thaw out and an early night.

Yay.

So pleased for you - bet you feel smug now that you will have all year to and friends for your horse to play with.

Well done you - and start playing a bit of Dolly Parton in your car - you will soon be barrel racing and roping steers !

Glad he's settle in well - has he gone away for breaking or schooling?

I have moved him to a yard nearer home that specialises in bringing on youngsters.

Technically to try and avoid too much of the "Kevin's" as he turns 5. Idea is I will have a lesson with Jan once a week and be given "homework" and Jan will work with him a couple of times a week one to one.

So I suppose technically schooling but with me being 100% involved but with back up on hand in case the old nerves and "what on earth am I doing with a youngster" raises it head.

I think of it as my safety net just in case!
