I am about to purchase a pair of wellies which will hopefully get me through the Winter. They obviously need to survive lots of mud and water. There is a wheel wash at our yard which gets as high as mid-wellie height in winter. I need soles that are as good as poss on ice/snow, and have an excellent grip for walking up muck ramp.
Soles really critical. Can't be sliding!
I bought 2 other pairs of wellies last year, fairly cheaply. Neither survived without leaking.
Any recommendations?
Thanks
(Budget to about £70)

I bought some nice-looking Town and Country ones last year and they are still good as new. Can't say that they had heavy use, but they were good on all surfaces and are still watertight!

(got them in the sale, too - so a nice bargain!! :D)

if you can spend a bit more, get some aigles! I've had mine about 9 years and they are still going strong! can't see that i will need to by news ones any time soon! they are around £100 but i did see some in scats in the sale last week, not sure how much more! but worth every penny!

I was told by our manager of our local horse/agricultural store that most wellies (including Hunters) are made to last 3-6 months, which made me decide I wasn't going to spend ££££. I bought a pair of Toggi wellingtons, which have already out lasted the six month mark and barely look used. They were about £45 and are so comfortable and suit my skinny calves, as are slim fitting. Would definitely recommend ;)

I bought a pair of Hunter Balmoral's, the beginning of last year and they are still going strong.
I wear them every day (even in the summer this year!!) to the yard around x-country courses and dog walks.
I walk about 6 miles a day in them and they are warm, comfy and very grippy apart from when we had those 2 weeks of solid ice but I think I would have struggled even with crampons on!!
I have big calves and struggled to get in to Huntress but the Balmorals have a lot of stretch.
They were £115 and had to shut my eyes when handing over the cash but they have been worth every penny.

I bought a pair of muckboot tynes last winter and came out of winter barely worn should see me through this winter too :). They are in your budget, seem to have decent grip, are lovely and warm (neoprene lined) and as an added bonus shaped for riding (I wouldnt personally use them to school but great for keeping toes warm on frosty hacks!). For extra grip I believe you can buy things that strap on over your shoes for ice & snow if its a real issue where you are :)

Second the Hunter Balmorals - love them! They don't seem to suffer the same problems as the Hunter classic.

Hi Theocat. Thanks for your post. Just out of interest, do you know what problems have occurred with the Hunter originals? Interested to know, so that I know what to avoid. Thanks.
