Looking for recent reviews on wellington, having issues where I pay for an assessment for our son and then unable to book anything. Before I shell out on Wellington, any recommendations?

I don't have experience of it in the last couple of years or as a riding school but as a competition venue it was always brilliant and from what I've heard I would have thought it would be well worth persevering with for your son. I can imagine it might be that they get very booked up so that could have been the problem?

Sadly this is not just a problem restricted to Wellington. Riding schools are closing everywhere. The cause is the 20% vat, Massive business rates and issues with staff. As a result the remaining decent schools are flooded with new clients but are restricted by the hours the horses can work. Another factor is often weight. It is far harder to find a lesson slot for a rider of 12 stone than say 10 stone. Also the bigger horses cost a lot more to keep. Also ,finding a safe ,sane. Sound ,riding school horse is very hard .
I think you just need to persevere and take on board the fact that every good school has the same problems.

Have you registed on their booking website? You may need for the rider account to be 'graded' (what the system they use terms as basically adding the rider ability), as it will then only then let you book lessons that are suitable. You should be able to see a half hour private lesson to book at some point. If you have registered, maybe give them a ring and nudge to get things moving, assuming they answer the phone, or reply to the email (they really are not the best admin wise 😏). I can almost guarantee you it will not be because they're fully booked.

With regards them as a place to ride, it can be brilliant, it can be incredibly average, speaking from my own multiple years long experiences. The kids' ponies are great, the facilities are great, but I remember watching a total beginners kids' lesson one lunchtime, and frankly had I been a parent, I'd have been looking to go somewhere else... (they'll encourage you to put your son into the group lessons once he's able to walk/trot/canter on his own, if he isn't already doing so). The teenager lessons seemed far better but you may be a while off that.

PM me if you'd like any more info :)
