Hi,

I'm hoping to show my two palaminos at a county show in July (in hand). The thing is I have only ever shown arabs before!!
Please could you give me some tips on our turnout?
Would my part bred (she's 15hands) need to be plaited?? I have never plaited before and she has a long flowing mane also what bridle will she need? (bit?)
With my section D I assume she can just go in natural and with a white rope halter?
What would I need to wear? We aren't looking at being ultra serious we have just decided to go so we can have a day out and some fun.
Thanks in advance! :)

I think I am correct in saying that the part-bred should be shown plaited and with a pulled tail.

for an adult horse a riding bridle depending on what type she is (showy or heavier) the bridle should be suit so a fine bridle with coloured browband if she is a riding horse type or a plain bridle with hunter noseband if she is heavier hunter type. normal riding reins over the head (not a coupler and lead rein) and ideally a double bridle or pelham with double reins but a snaffle would be ok if necessary. If under four years old then an in-hand bridle may be more appropriate in which case you would use a coupler and lead rein

Welsh D should mare should be in a halter as you say

For you tweed jacket, dark trousers, shirt and tie, I would wear dark short boots and a navy riding hat but other hats may be ok I am not too sure

many thanks for your reply!! it is most helpful!
the welsh part bred is crossed with a trotter. She looks like a full Section D really.
I think I will need to learn how to plait and fast!! It will be a nightmare as she has the longest thickest most beautiful mane!It comes down to her shoulder! any ideas on how to plait her as I definately will not be able to pull it short as we are only going as a one off and she will be up for sale in a couple of months.
I will need to try and find a tweet jacket and blue hat but at least i have a month to do so.
:)

Ditto welshd. Must admit having a partbred welsh when I was looking for a 2nd I went pure welsh to avoid the plaiting. I was fed up stabbing myself with a needle and having to get up at stupid oclock to factor in plaiting. My lovely welsh d is a wash and go. Eg wash night before and fall out of bed on show day and go.

I have just had a quick look on the net and it does state that you can show them natural if the other part of the breeding would be shown natural - she is crossed with a trotter so I don't know if trotters would be plaited for showing?
Also any ideas on how to plait her when she has such a thick long mane? it's right down to her shoulder - Would a running plait be allowed?

In which case I'd leave unplaited, if this a rare occasion completely understand you not wanting to pull the mane and I think it trying to plait a mane that long won't give a very tidy result. I'd still use a bridle though rather than a halter.

Can you see if there any photographs from last year to see what other people did? the official photographer probably still has them on their site.

Ah thank you so much! I am going to use a bridle - with reins and a snaffle. My other issue now is just my turn out as with the arabs its dark coloured trousers (my horses have light coloured legs!) a white shirt and waistcoat - i think i can get away with this in the Section D class but from what has been mentioned above I'll need a tweet jacket and a blue hat :( not very organised am i!! hopefully I can get this sorted out as have a few weeks.
