Am looking for a rider for my lovely Welsh Sec D gelding. He is a 10yo, 14.2hh gentleman with lovely manners and paces. However I have another horse who needs lots of schooling and with the little time & opportunity I have I tend to spend it on him. So poor Welshie gets left on the sidelines.

He can be a bit nervous with strangers and a wee bit sharp at times when he thinks there is a horse eating monster lurking behind a bush but he's not dangerous or evil with it (tends to just stop and stare/snort). He doesn't bite, kick, rear, buck or bolt. He enjoys hacking even on busy roads. He is genuinely a very nice animal to be with - just a bit anxious with life!

He's quite small for a cob so would only suit a lightweight adult but you'd also need to be an experienced and competent rider to get the best out of him. He only responds to careful, consistent handling and riding - anything else fries his wee brain. You'd also need to be experienced handling horses - i.e. be able to bring in/put out, un-rug/re-rug, groom and tack up without any babysitting. You should enjoy schooling and be able to school to the level where the horse significantly improves day by day.

The only downside to this chap is his fear of poles - he can now manage trotting poles nicely but jumping them is another matter. So rather than force him to do something he is clearly terrified of I'd prefer him to enjoy a showjumping free life. Therefore he would suit someone interested in hacking, dressage or showing (although his conformation doesn't really allow for anything but showing for fun, e.g. riding club pony). I have started doing a bit of Le Trec with him and so far he is displaying a natural aptitude and enthusiasm for this.

There is no financial contribution expected, maybe some stable duties like making up a haynet/feed, skipping out occasionally. I would expect you to keep his tack clean however and make sure he is groomed before & after riding. I would also expect you to turn up when you'll say you'll turn up - even in a howling gale!

I have a private yard outside Carluke, South Lanarkshire with a 20 x 40m outdoor school with floodlights.

You would need to be over 18, have your own car and be insured - rider/public liability.
