I just wondered what people's thoughts were on the coat of my welsh section A? This is the first year I've had him through summer. He was very late losing his coat, which I understand is normal for ponies, but it seems he's already growing a bit of a winter coat, and hairs are coming off when I brush him. He's been moved to summer pastures and gained weight compared to when he was in his winter paddock, otherwise he seems well in himself. I am just not sure if this is usual for their coats or something I should be worried about, and whether I should be considering testing for cushings? he's only 9 years old. Only other info which might be relevant is that he cribs. Just compared with my Quarter Horse, he's not very shiny and although his winter coat was definitely very woolly and is now gone, I expected him to look more like my QH in summer.

Yes that’s a normal summer coat for a native. Mine are all shedding and growing their winter woolies. My Shetland has been clipped twice since July. I’m slightly worried they know something we don’t!
