Does anyone have one? What are they like as a breed e.g hardiness (would live out 24/7), good doers, temperament etc.

Any advice good or bad would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Agree with all of that. Nice ones make beautiful ponies for small children to ride, bad ones are very very naughty: or perhaps that is just ours! They definitely have lots of personality. Ours lives out on fresh air and is inclined to be fat with too much grass.

They are great characters!

My little one lets you know his mood and his wants by way of cartoon style faces, he never bites never kicks and is never aggressive but he likes everything 'just so' and he lets you know about it if he isn't happy

he is the worst mountain pony in the world, he is a poor do-er who likes his rugs, stable and hay. I am sure he quite possibly would winter out but I don't know if I could take the flack from him!

Much as I love him to bits I much prefer the temperament of my section B, he is much more laid back and very very easygoing

Mine copes with cold but doesn't do soaking wet so is rugged and/or stabled when it's bad weather, so pretty much all this winter! Likes to go field hoping with no respect for electric tape. She is a bit mareish and is shortly getting a crash course in reminding her about manners. Is fed a very small feed of speedi beet, micronised linseed, unmolassed chaff and pro balance each day in the winter on recommendation of our barefoot trimmer to improve her hoof quality. She is cheeky but very cute.

Mine lives out but when I bought her she had rain smoke so us gently rugged when required. She's a darling, very loving but also very cheeky!

Mine was fab, a really cheeky, lovable character. Would happily lived out, also happy to come in. Didn't need a rug ( bought a couple just in case but never needed to use them). Lived off fresh air. Needed to watch weight in summer but not by muzzling as she wouldn't keep it on - off in less than ten seconds, then would pick it up and chuck it!! Wouldn't wear a fly mask either.
Beautiful hooves - no need for shoes. Beautiful to look at. Lovely nature.
Really miss the little pony.

They are generally feisty like all the Welshies. If you a get a good one, it will be a topper.

What do you want to do with it?

Thanks for replies. They certainly sound like characters.

Basically want a companion pony for our Connie but maybe suitable for 7 yr old to ride.

Ours is an opinionated little toad. Prone to fat, prone to trotting off wherever she feels like it with her little jockey and generally teaching her rider to learn to ride. Her seven year old owner loves and won't let me trade her in under any circumstances ever.

Just got one now (had 8 this time last year!) and he's great, lives out unrugged unshod :)
Very good doer but not too shocking, we have had poor doers and also the silly good doers you need to keep off the grass most of the year. Most have been unshod most of the time :) Temperament everything from perfect lead rein and first ridden, to super super professionals only (not even adult only) sharp. Our current one was a stallion for a bit and is a handful on the ground at the mouth end, great forwards going to work, puts his back into it, always cheeky never naughty.

Oh, I love a little Welshie myself! I learnt to ride on one named Hazey Sunshine, lol! He was speedy, cheeky, loving and great fun! He had the typical cheeky Welshie habit of dropping a shoulder round corners in canter and sending you out the side door, the little monkey - really taught me stickability.

We had a couple at a riding school where I used to work and they were fab, very sweet and really looked after the little children.

If you can get a good one, it'll be well worth it :)

Fiesty is the word!

Mine is a poor doer, temperament of a thoroughbred on race mix but at the same time is sweet natured and perfectly polite to handle. She doesn't bite/kick/barge. Beautiful to look at, but hates children with a passion (wouldn't hurt them but makes her feelings clear!)
She's a strange one but I wouldn't swap her for the world!
