got 1 - lovely temp. and willing to do anything and has done a large variety of totally different things

very sensible and sane but is very strong in his brain - although ridden in a snaffle, plain n'band and no martingale

like a lot of welshies - can be fizzy - but very capable competition horse and great hack and friend

bolshy - no
strong minded - yes - - they have brains

harrys a welsh section d. He is abit pushy but controllable, he is fizzy and has got a HELL of a jump on him. they are real characters though

We had 2 on my uni yard, one of them was an utter bolshy git, who would drag you around given half the chance, lost count of the amount of times he trotted into the yard on his own having pulled over his leader, probably not his fault though as had been brought up on a uni yard with several different people looking after him. The other one was good as gold, never put a foot wrong, and was very capable.

We used to own two, both were quick to learn, very intelligent - infact, too intelligent, but both very gentle and loving. I wouldn't recommend them for novices though as they can be a bit sharp.

I have one, the one in my sig

very very intelligent and a hell of a jump as someone said, they have a rather large rear end to propel them. Too sharp and active for a novice or a child I would say but perfect all rounders for an adult as they can genuinely do a bit of everything and do it well too. Don't get me wrong they aren't mad or bolshy, just too clever to take any messing! I've never met one who wasn't kind and affectionate too. And an unbeatable trot, you can sit to it all day (and they can do it all day :P)

My horse shares a field with a welsh D. I help look after him and I've been riding him quite a bit since my horse has been off work.
He's got character and is incredible kind and can turn a hoof to most things. He's lovely to hack, has a cracking jump and would do a lovely dressage test. He's a ride for an adult and you need to be firm with him or he'll take the p but there's no malice and he learns very quickly. If he's typical of the breed I'd have one tomorrow.

i was thinking the other day how funny it is that when somebody mentions a welsh D or cob and you automatically think of an old dobben but their far from it!!!
my welsh D X isn't flighty but very forward going, you only ask him once!!! my welsh A is worse than my big boy!! if you ride him half way down the lane he turns on a sixpence and gallops back home!!!! its fun but naughty!

he can get bulshy round food but thats it!!!

heres a piccy of him

I agree with the comments above really. I have a Welsh D and would have another tomorrow. He is a challenge and very quick in his mind. He has a strong character and knows his mind but not in a horrible way, you just have to know how to play him. He is wonderful and full of expression. I agree about the trot too...I do endurance on mine and he trots for miles and miles and it is very natural to ride to.

Agree with the jumping. We had a three year filly who cleared a 5 foot electric fence from a standstill!!!!

I have two - and they are opposites!

My 4yr old if very gentle and steady even tho green and would trust him with anyone! My 15yr old if a sweetie but is much more spirited and a strong ride.

You cant get better than a welsh tho - best breed in the world

I have one and I wouldnt swap him

!!
He is very quick to learn and too clever for his own good.
I dont have any photos but here is a photo of my Sec C instead from last year - being frightened by a bantam

my welsh cob can be lead in a headcollar, left on his own but my friends mare has to be lead in a chifney bit or she'll mow you down or barge past you. They both are a little spooky at leaves & bags (mines more honest than my friends who does it to wind her rider up!) but excellant with traffic.

my lad can be strong to ride but he hasnt been schooled much & that is why he is bitted in a cheltenham gag, pelham or double bridle but we occasionally risk riding in a snaffle!

My boy is a D x TB and is v. sharp. Totally different to my Arab x ID. I love him as he is a dobbin to lead about but comes alive when you ride him. He also has a ponchant for jumping 4' of electric fence and never touches it. He is a little riggy and as I've know him since he was a foal, know he was cut at 3. KK said the Welsh D's she's been involved with were also on the riggy side and wondered if anyone else had had this problem.

This is mine. Versatile, sensible, does everything, but when he doesn't want to co-operate he is very hard work. Switches from being a slug to a maniac in seconds.(usually because he's seen a jump) Is very amusing. People that like him say he's got character, those that don't like him say he's got attitude.

I own one but he's just gone out on loan. Can be v sweet, tries hard when he wants to, jumps like a stag when he wants to, does a nice dressage test when he wants to....are you getting the gist yet??

He had the loaner off within minutes during their first ride yesterday, I am absolutely mortified

You know our Welsh D mare already - Hefn Star.
SSM met her recently during their hols...

Yes, they are strong willed (in this case) - so the rider has to be equally strong willed

, but they are very versatile, strong and dependable ponies !

They are also much underated in France

lillie, his name is Trefaes Black Jack, unfortunately I only had him for a short time and can't remember his breeding

The filly, who is now 5 and has a 8 month colt, stands now at 15.2hh. She is Cadditon Jubilee , both for sale - but I have to look up her pedigree too, the same lady now owns both of them.

Sophie, I am in Redruth, looks like your horse is in the Pool/Illogen area??
