Ok, I've had my Welsh D X TB a year a despite being green he's coming on nicely...
However, I've had many people 'warn' me about his breeding. One saying they have an attitude problem and others saying they just can't get on with them.
I hope I'm proving the these people wrong with my boy but just wondering if anyone else had any experience (good or bad) with this cross breed?

It'll be interesting to hear your stories :)

Hi Dukey,

I had a welsh x tb on part loan when I was a teenager and absolutely loved him! I would love to have him now, he was such a star. Albeit he took the mick a bit with handling but then I was young and still very much in the learning stage (still am! :p). He had great paces and a fantastic jump. He would jump anything you pointed him at. I still miss him loads, he really was a one in a million.

I've never heard anything bad/good about crossing the two breeds...you get good and bad in all breeds IMO.

Here is a pic of him when I was around 13/14

What's your boy like? Pictures please! :D

I Have one:D talented pony but veery grumpy and will take the mick if got the chance:p. Shes had on loan at the moment and both girls that have loaned her have/are very much enjoying her so she gets on with people quite well :)

Mine's a four year old now and is again green. But he's so trainable and I love him to bits. He does try and push the boundaries sometimes (don't they all) but not nastily at all. I'd have another Welsh D x TB without hesitation.

One of the crosses Im considering when I get my next one. Very torn after a conversation with a friend who thinks i should get a sports pony such as the above instead of my full bred Welsh D ;) :D

My welsh x tb is 26 now, she is 14.1 and very grumpy, bargy, bolshy, and generally a pain in the bum and my 4 year old shows her up behavior wise but I love her to pieces :D Once someone clicks with her she will do anything for them but otherwise takes the pee and runs a mile with it.. Very quick, clever pony :)

I've only ever met and heard good things about welsh x TB's! Love them. One of ours is apparently a welsh x tb and if he is then he couldn't be improved on, he's brilliant.

I have a Welsh x TB :). He's 14.2hh and I love him to the moon... buuut he is a bit stubborn at times (he can bolt like a demon). He use to jump 1.10m with his previous owner but I compete him in Junior Elementary dressage. He's got lovely movement and a very open shoulder - but he can get very hot when we train our lateral work. He escapes from paddocks and stays fat on air :p. We do Open Showing and he's a gem with that. He's also 17 years old and still going strong :)!

I have a 2 year old tb x welsh ;) He's VERY sharp but I think will be a very nice comp horse when he's grown up. He's to make around 16.1 and I aim to event him in the future.

Also have a purebred welsh D who is a total superstar :D

I have a tb x welsh and he is fab. He has been the perfect first horse. He is really good to ride and handle (most of the time!). He can be a bit sharp and spooky at times and does have a bit of a tantrum if he doesn't get his own way but it would be a bit boring if he did as he was told all of the time ;)

I have a 3 year old welsh x TB who is a star. He is not in the slightest bit spooky, can be a bit opinionated and have the odd strop, but not a nasty bone in his body. He has been lightly backed and is now having some time off whilst having a growth spurt, and I have some babies!!! Can't wait to get on him and have a play when I am back in action, he is going to make a good all-rounder and will hopefully get him out hunting as well when is all grown up!!
Just wanted to add, when you say some people just can't get on with him, mine is a bit of a one woman horse as I have had him since he was a yearling and he doesn't just take to new people straight away.

My 2yo is a welsh x TB - he's a lovely character and wouldn't hurt a fly but can be stubborn. I can't say whether thats his breed or his age though as he's my first youngster. I have heard they make spirited horses but as the owner of an arab I know this doesn't always apply to the individual horse (my arab is practically horizontal)

I lost my welsh x tb last year through colic. She was pretty sharp and spooky, but a total donkey to handle. Miss her very much.

when i was 13 I had a welsh d x tb and he was an angel :) he was used as a hunter most of his life and would jump anything, I just had him for hacking and he wasn't at all spooky

My spotty pony is pretty much totally welsh x tb but with a tiny bit of appaloosa. he is extremely talented in both dressage and very scopy jump wise. Very easy to train and such a character. Has the rare stroppy moment which passes and then he continues as normal. He is sharp and responsive but I like my horses this way. Hoping to get to PSG with him. My spanish instructer likes him and says he has very nice front leg action :D

Would have another one, or a welsh cross appy/ wb etc in a heart beat. I think the welsh big trot action and uphill paces crossed with the straighter, more ground covering stride of the tb/ wb gives just the right combination of paces :)

My boy is a 5yr old Welsh X TB. Love him to bits...he's a good mix of both breeds. Very sharp though, you need to have your wits about you!!

we have a welsh secd x tb.. he has the biggest charater ever such a loving horse but if in the wrong hands could see him being very opinionated and if you didn't have ya whits about ya would prob get his own way. best horse ever tho jumps well 1.10m but doesn't like his schooling

Oh wow there's a lot of love for them! Its great to hear!
My boy has been in 'proper' work for a year and he is coing along great. SJing at BN and doing well at prelim dressage.
Has won dressage and SJ comps. Start XC. He is 17hh! His mum was 3/4 TB 1/4 welsh B and dad a welsh D so his height is a little odd :)
I like to call him Kevin because he has that teenage attitude! Loving all the pics! I'm new here so I'll try to get my pics up shortly!
Your stories/pics are great keep them coming!

Oh, Tangled he looks like a bigger/chuckier verson of ur old boy... Their heads are very simliar mines a bright bay tho! X
