Hi,

I'm looking for a new horse and have seen a Weltmeyer out of Londonderry mare that I'm interested in. I've had a 3/4 TB in the past and more recently ridden warmbloods which I love but don't really know much about Hanoverians or this blood line in particular.

Can anyone offer any advice on what they're temperament is like? Are they good to handle? Easy to train? Spooky? What disciplines would they be good for? Etc. I'm looking to do a bit of everything at low levels focusing on dressage but will also be doing a lot of hacking and sponsored rides.

Any info would be much appreciated.

Weltmeyer was one of the most popular stallions in germany for a long time, he has many, many top class children out there competing. Londonderry is also top banana breeding, his sire was actually a full TB, so like many top class hannovarians, they have huge amounts of quality TB breeding in them . I'm willing to bet this horse is chestnut ?

Many of the Weltmeyer horses I have seen are chunky monkeys and big horses. Some people say they can be hot. To be honest I have seen loads and I mean loads go through the elite auctions in Germany as 3 and 4 years olds, and they have all very well behaved.

Whether this horse is well behaved, or not, will be down to it's training. With those bloodlines, it ought to be a high quality horse.

Chestnut mare of all things! I wasn't even looking at mares at all but she looks and sounds like a good one. Might have to go and have a look and hope she doesnt live up to the chestnut mare reputation.

Hey, I have owned 2 fabulous bright ginger chestnut mares. I would have another in an instant. Again, if you go to Germany, you will see the majority of horses at the auction are black or chestnut - the germans don't worry about chestnut mares...

Good luck.

My boy has Weltmeyer as grandsire and is out of a Pion/Doruto mare.
He is chestnut!
He is HUGE, (this does limit the pleasure in off road fun rides.)
He is stubborn.
He is not chunky.
He is not easy to train.
At 8 he is still not fully mature physically or mentally.
I have learned so much from owning/training him.
He has awesome paces.
I love him to bits,in spite of the quirks. It has taken time and tact and thought to train him,but he now hacks in a relaxed manner(still not for a novice) and will offer piaffe with little more than a thought from me.
This is him.

Abitodd he's also gorgeous. I'm not worried about having a bit of a handful, I've never ridden a plod and couldn't imagine doing so. Just don't want one that has a melt down every time you ask it to do something.
The one I've seen is a manageable, if a little small, 16hh 5 yr old

My mare has Weltmeyer as a grandsire (out of Weltruhm and It's So Sweet), she is fab. Very chilled, intelligent, easy to ride with beautiful paces.

Used to be grumpy, but this has been solved with a change in stable and has turned into the cutest little horse :)

Not huge (16hh) and not chunky, would add a pic if I could, but no idea how on an iPhone!

My friend has one by Weltmeyer (chestnut funnily enough), echo what pretty much everyone else has said.
Think they had a reputation for being hot and a bit bad tempered, but got a feeling that this was probably more to do with the calibre of the horse, think they are super horses but probably need someone with a bit of experience to get the best out of them (bit like buying a a car and getting a supercar).
Was Fiona Bigwoods horse that went to WEG not by Weltmeyer (scurries away to check).

Good Luck, chestnut mares are fine, I have one by Baron B and she's brilliant, now teaching the children to ride (well teaching them to stay on as she tries to lauch them, she's decided age is just a number and she likes the number 5 so she will act like that instead of 24 that she is)!!!!

He's lovely.

Hello,

One of mine was by Weltmeyer. Despite being a bit of a
chunky monkey he was like a cat in his movement. His brain
also needed to be kept fully occupied and as he got older,
he did develop a few opinions about how things "should be".

I would easily have a stable full of ones just like him!

Good luck -- dene

I really don't think you can go wrong with those fabulous bloodlines. Lauries Crusador; fabulous stallion! And Weltmeyer; pure class! I have a Weltmeyer youngster at the moment and he's the most chilled and laid back foal ever.

Intelligent and can be sharp but usually have a trainable brain. They do tend to have lovely heads as well and with the rest of the breeding I would think you will be looking at an attractive horse.

Hello, sorry I had to check Mr D's breeding but yep Weltmeyer is in there.

He's a right mardy so and so, but that isnt his fault, his mum was a maiden and couldnt produce enough milk so rejected him. He was bottle fed and so is very very human.

He is also of amazing bloodlines so was entire on the continent until the age of 4 and a half, when he was gelded and sent here.

Don't know how much of this you could attribute to Weltmeyer but by god he is a stunner, he walks on clouds and if I could ever get on the right side of his little German brain he would be an A1 Grand Prix Dressage horse, no question.

Whisk is a Weltmeyer baby. Weltmeyer was his grandad. He is chestnut and not really chunky although he is a big lad. We had a few issues when I first got him. Mainly I think because he came over from Germany and I keep him in a very different way, he gets daily turnout and is one of 3 rather than in 23 hours a day and one of 70. He is very clever and needs lots of work. Can be spooky so makes for an interesting ride. Moves beautifully and...oh yes I love him!! :D

Please excuse fatness, he has a tendency for weight gain.

Love ginger horses!!!!!

So she had already been sold. But I am going to see another one this weekend. A gelding, which actually suits me better as I already have a stroppy mare at home. He's another hanovarian but Riccione breeding. Again, I have no idea about these but I guess its worth a look to see if I like them.
