I have an ageing gelding by Welton Louis, who’s a full brother to Welton Romance. His bloodlines seem exceptional, but he’s done nothing exceptional with me, as I’m not an exceptional rider! But as he ages, I’m thinking his genes might be valued still by eventers, and it might be worth storing his DNA for potential cloning by someone. Are his bloodlines still valued or have things moved on in the eventing world?

I am not a breeding expert but I would not have thought so, as he himself has no record in any sphere other then bloodlines.

I am speaking from the perspective that if I were to want to breed an exceptional horse through cloning, which is not the norm, I would look for a horse with exceptional breeding and a great record that shows that the horse was robust enough mentally and physically to stand up to the work.

That said, it is your horse and nothing to stop you storing his DNA.
